Lalibela Game Reserve

Mark's Camp Location Map

Mark's Camp, in the 10,500 hectare malaria-free Lalibela Game Reserve, offers a wonderful family safari experience. The lodge welcomes young children, and has a dedicated children's programme which optimizes both the safari experience with quality family time.

Children are looked after by accomplished child minders while parents enjoy their morning and evening game drives, and evening dinner. The children have their own game ranger and go off on a short morning and afternoon game drive every day. In-between drives, there is a playground with a jungle gym and sandpit or many other games to play.

As well as the Big 5, other wildlife found on the reserve include hippo, giraffe, zebra, warthog and numerous species of antelope such as eland, kudu, bushbuck and wildebeest.

All of the animals, including the predators, are free-roaming throughout the entire reserve.

The atmosphere at Mark's Camp is one of 'relaxed informality', and dining, whether indoors or outdoors, is always around a large central table.

The 7 stone and thatch chalets and main lodge at Mark's Camp are decorated in a relaxed Pan-African style.

Each comfortably furnished chalet has an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning. The chalets open up onto a private deck with views over the waterhole.

Guests can also choose to relax in the large lounge, bird watch from the viewing decks or laze around the swimming pool.

There is a huge demand for families wanting a safari holiday in a malaria-free area, because of the risks associated with taking children to a malaria-infested area. Lalibela's location makes it ideal for families travelling with children, who are wanting to combine a family safari with the Garden Route and Cape Town.

Mark's Camp have devised a children's programme which optimises the safari experience and also offers quality family time.

Each family is different and children require varying degrees of attention, which is why the emphasis at Lalibela is to be as flexible as possible to ensure memorable family holidays. An overview of the children's programme offered by Mark's Camp is as follows.

In the early morning Lalibela's child minders come on duty so that parents can leave for their morning game drive. The children are given a chance to wake up, get dressed and be ready for the day.

Breakfast is served and then it is time for the activities of the morning, starting with a short game drive with their own game ranger and in their own special game viewing vehicle, taking care to avoid any close encounters with dangerous game. Parents are welcome to stay behind and accompany their children on these kiddie's game drives.

The middle of the day is time for the family to spend together. Before the adults go out on their afternoon game drive, high tea is served for both adults and children. The children then head out on their own afternoon game drive and return to the lodge for an early dinner before getting creative with some arts and crafts activities.

Young children are looked after by child minders during the adults' dinner sitting.

Start TestimonialWe had a great holiday, and have completed the questionnaire with our marks and comments. We can't speak highly enough of Mark's Camp (although we maybe could have only stayed 3 nights instead of 4) and the wonderful Lezard Bleu. Finally, there is no way you could possibly improve on the first-rate service from yourself. Every time we changed our minds about where to go, you quickly came up with alternative solutions and quotes. Communication was always swift, courteous and well-presented; this gave us a very positive impression of the company, which was reinforced when we enjoyed the quality of accommodation you helped provide. So please give yourself a big pat on the back and feel free to quote any of these remarks as you wish ...End Testimonial

A ALBUM

Start TestimonialThought I would just let you know that we had a superb time at Lalibela, it was a very small but very personal lodge. It was pure luxury and first class treatment from the time we arrived at the gate. Every night the electric blanket was on with a bed side story left on your pillow with a mint, it was lovely. The lodge was perfect and had an elephant at Mark's Camp watering hole on our last day. The staff were amazing at Mark's Camp, professional and knowledgable. I would recommend it to anyone.End Testimonial
