Lodge activities include game viewing in open 4x4 vehicles as well as bushwalks along the river valley with trained field guides. The reserve today that is home to the lion, leopard, elephant, white rhino, cheetah, wild dog, brown hyena, 15 different types of antelope, and 30 other species of mammal. The Welgevonden bird checklist currently exceeds 280 birds and is increasing steadily. The game drives are restricted to the extensive road network in the reserve, so no off-roading is permitted.
With dramatic views of the Sterkstroom River Valley, the main lodge offers the perfect setting for sundowners on the deck next to the infinity pool.
The cuisine at Clifftop is a superb fusion of African and Western flavours, and offers guests a menu to surpass the expectations of the most discerning diner.
The lodge also boasts an extensive wine cellar, stocked with premium wines allowing guests to enjoy a cheese and wine or intimate dinner.
Eight luxury suites, all overlooking the flowing Sterkstroom River, each enjoy their own private deck and plunge pool perched on the cliff, allowing guests the opportunity to view game from the privacy of their suites.
Each of the suites is en-suite, with both indoor and outdoor showers. All the suites are air conditioned.

Directions For Drivers
From Johannesburg or Pretoria: Take N1 North towards Polokwane. At the Kranskop Toll Gate go left towards Modimolle (Nylstroom) on the R33. Pass through Modimolle and head in the direction of Vaalwater/Mabatlane. Pass directly through Vaalwater/Mabatlane and continue until you see the signs for the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve. At the East Gate sign turn left and follow the gravel road for 10 km.
As no private vehicles are allowed in the Welgevonden Game Reserve, guests driving themselves are required to park their car at the East Gate. Safe covered parking is provided at the gate on the inside of the reserve.

General Information For Guests
All suites have a private deck with plunge pool and thatched sala. There are also indoor and outdoor showers. The suites are non-smoking and also have air conditioning, direct dial telephones, a hair dryer, a mini bar, room safe, tea/coffee making facilities, electric blankets, and indoor and outdoor lounges. One suite has an open plan bathroom and toilet.
There is 24 hour security at the lodge.
The lodge accepts Visa, MasterCard, AMEX and Diners Club - a 5% service charge will be included. Debit cards are not accepted.
Massage treatments in the privacy of your suite can be arranged at an additional cost.
The main lodge has a swimming pool and deck area. There is also a wine cellar and wine tasting sessions can be booked (additional charge - prebooking advised).
