Occupying 2 historic buildings, it retains the architecture and many meticulously restored interior features of the original South African Reserve Bank and the old BoE building - formerly the Temple Chambers, built in 1890. For those who wish to dine at the hotel, luxury dining meets fine Indian cuisine at the Bombay Brasserie where every meal is a gastronomic journey through a delicate melody of flavours. This is contemporary Indian dining at its best. Or visit the Twankey Bar - where seafood tapas, glamorous cocktails and the most comprehensive selection of delicious oysters are the hallmarks of this oyster and champagne bar. The Mint Restaurant specialises in innovative international and local fare and a relaxed atmosphere where every guest feels at home.

Out of the 176 rooms, the Taj Hotel offers a selection of 11 room types. These include a 2 bedroom, split-level Presidential Suite and 10 Heritage Suites. The Taj Club floor with its private lounge is served by a dedicated butler team, providing breakfast and evening canapes and cocktails.
Within the restored historic buildings there are 20 Heritage Luxury rooms, with mountain views and a further 10 overlooking the city. The 17 new floors accommodate rooms with panoramic views of Table Mountain or the city.
