Named after the famous Shamwari leopardess that survived numerous lion maulings and raised 5 litters of cubs, Sindile is a secluded luxury getaway set deep in the African wild.

Located in the malaria-free Shamwari Game Reserve, Sindile blends in perfectly with the surrounding bush and offers excellent views of the Bushman's River below, as well as the surrounding plains.

Guests can enjoy an array of experiences such as game drives, birding, walking safaris, and excursions to the nearby Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. The guides and rangers are experts at navigating the Shamwari terrain and are readily available to answer any questions you may have. Walking safaris offer the chance for you to gain a true perspective of the fauna and flora indigenous to this incredible region.

This magnificent lodge boasts 9 premier tents each with a private heated plunge pool.

The main lodge at Sindile is made up of large staggered tents, joined together by viewing decks and elevated walkways.

Bush Walks / Walking Safaris

Guests over 65 wishing to join a walking safari are required to have a letter or certificate from their doctor confirming they are in good health and are physically fit to do the walk. More details available on request. In addition, pregnant women are not permitted on walking safaris.

A walking safari can last a couple of hours and involve walking over uneven terrain that may contain dangerous wildlife in potentially high temperatures. Guests may need to move quickly and for a sustained period through rough bush terrain if instructed to do so by their guide.

Regardless of age or the provision of a doctor’s certificate, the final decision on whether a guest can join a walking safari remains with the guide and lodge manager.

Directions For Drivers

From Port Elizabeth (also known as Gqeberha): Follow the N2 out of Port Elizabeth heading towards Grahamstown bypassing the town of Colchester. 11 km past Colchester use the left lane to take the N2 ramp to Grahamstown. Continue on the N2 for 17 km and take the R342 turn-off for Shamwari Private Game Reserve on your left. Travel 7 km up the gravel road and enter at the Shamwari Private Game Reserve gate where you will stop at the Welcome Lounge to check in.



General Information For Guests

The rooms all have an en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower, along with an outdoor shower. They also include air conditioning, Nespresso coffee machine, telephone, mini bar, hair dryer, electronic safe, indoor fireplace, a private viewing deck with a heated plunge pool, and a lounge area.

The lodge consists of a dining room with a fireplace, reception, gift boutique, lounge area, bar and lounge with a big screen TV, boma, a relaxation retreat and a deck with a firepit.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided.

Activities that are available at Sindile include game drives, walking safaris, bird watching and visits to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary. Part of this experience is Vulpro - a unique captive breeding centre and the only one of its kind in Africa. Injured vulture species that can’t fly will breed in captivity and the healthy young are released back into the wild.

The game viewing drives are available for morning and afternoon trips, as this is when the animals are most active. The vehicles are open and comfortable, and give you a panoramic view of the area. You’ll be guided by a trained game rangers who’ll take you and your party through the reserve, encountering many animals along the way. The game drives themselves last for approximately 3 to 4 hours and take you through the reserve. Included on the game drive is a coffee stop for the morning drive and a sundowner stop in the evening. The game drive vehicle seats 6 guests.

All guests will be provided with a pair of Swarovski Optik Binoculars (EL 10 x 42 range) - one pair per couple - for use when out on game drives. Should you then wish to purchase your own binoculars, they are available to buy in the gift boutique.

Should you wish to leave a gratuity, envelopes are available at reception. Alternatively you can add it to your final bill and settle by credit card when you check out.
