Situated in the Timbavati Game Reserve, Shindzela Tented Safari Camp offers an affordable Kruger safari holiday, without compromising on important safari experiences such as the thrill of viewing African wildlife, marvelling at a beautiful sunset, or relaxing around the camp fire with a drink.
The main focus is on game drives in open 4x4 vehicles (day and night drives) as well as walking safaris.
The open Land Cruisers can comfortably accommodate 10 guests per vehicle. The game drives (one drive early morning and one late afternoon and early evening which last for approximately 3 to 3.5 hours each, depending on animal movements) are conducted in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve on Shindzela’s traversing concession, and often you will drive off-road into the bush in search of predators or unusual sightings.
The walking safaris (maximum of 8 guests) are led by a professional, experienced safari guide and a tracker. Your Kruger walking safari generally begins at dawn and there is ample opportunity to stop along the trail to examine interesting features of the bush or to observe animals, before returning to the camp mid morning to enjoy a hearty brunch.
Shindzela has 8 safari canvas tents. Each tent is built on a wooden deck, and has a thatch grass roof, designed to keep you cool in summer and cosy in winter. The tents all have a private en-suite bathroom and a private deck/porch where you can sit and relax. Six of the tents have a view of the watering hole, and 2 tents are set further away, offering slightly more privacy with views of the dry river bed.
The main guest areas at the camp include a swimming pool, a dining area, and a lounge area.
Special offers for longer stays or when booked as part of a longer itinerary may apply - details on request.
All meals; tea/coffee; Timbavati Conservation Levy; and daily shared safari activities (morning/afternoon game drives and/or walking activities) are included. PLEASE NOTE: Other drinks are NOT included. IN ADDITION: For self-drive visitors, there is a vehicle entrance fee of R140 per vehicle (subject to change), which is payable at the Timbavati Gate (cash or Visa/MasterCard credit cards only).
Children aged 10 years and older are welcome. Rates available on request. Children under the age of 16 may not participate in a walking safari.
Children under the age of 16 years are not permitted on bush walks. Guests over 65 years old wishing to join a bush walk are required to have a letter or certificate from their doctor confirming they are in good health and are physically fit to do the walk. More details available on request.

Absolutely fantastic safari holiday. Both camps especially Shindzela were just what we wanted, with excellent game viewing plus friendly and helpful staff. In addition the food was first rate.
Thank you very very much for the holiday booking you made for us.
It was really REALLY AMAZING!! I could say that this was a super holiday, the location was perfect, the staff did a fantastic job, food was a delight and the scenery and animals were a fantastic experience, amazing as we did see all the big 5 several times, even see 2 killings and lots of beautiful animals and birds.
Even the transport to Shindzela with Ashtons was great as we enjoyed the conversation with the driver.
Shindzela is a great lodge, food and services very good, the location is amazing as it's inside the park and no fences :)
Also the game drives were amazing, they did all the best for us to see and enjoy the beautiful animals.
Everything was absolutely amazing. You did a great job. But we want to emphasize Shindzela, that place is just something extraordinary.
We just returned from our safari trip and we had an amazing time. I just really want to thank you for all your help and attention in helping us book this experience. We were completely overwhelmed with all the options and would not have been able to book it on our own.
Shindzela and Africa on Foot were amazing to us and we couldn't have asked to be treated better.
I will recommend your services and their camps to anyone and everyone who asks.
Shindzela Tented Safari Camp: We loved the tent, the layout, meal times (eating with the other guests was a great way to meet new people), the drink stops during the morning and evening game drives and our guide was the best of the whole trip. He was a friendly, helpful person and his knowledge and way of sharing information was amazing. We learnt so much about the animals.
Shindzela was fantastic and the family atmosphere there was welcoming and one that I would return to tomorrow if I had the chance. The night in the hide was one that I won't forget in a while as I was kept awake all night by two very noisy hippos and a group of hyenas!
From Hazyview: Follow the R40 towards Klaserie. Once past Klaserie, continue along this road until you see the turning off to the right for Eastgate/Hoedspruit Airport. Turn right here and proceed along this road until you reach the main Timbavati Control Gate. For self-drive visitors, there is a vehicle entrance cash fee of R140 per vehicle payable at the gate (subject to change).
From the Timbavati Control Gate, travel about 12-13 km, and turn right where it is signposted Shindzela. Continue to follow the Shindzela signs until you reach the camp.
Driving time from the Timbavati Gate to Shindzela on the dirt road is about 60 minutes. If you are lost, or have any queries, please call on +27 (0) 82 307 9493.
Do not get out of your car until you reach the camp. You may see some wildlife on your way - if you do, slow down and maintain a good distance. Do not drive off-road in any circumstances.
Also, we would advise that you do NOT use a GPS once in the Timbavati, as it is likely to give you incorrect directions!
From Johannesburg/Pretoria: Take the N12 or N4 highway to Witbank/eMalahleni (from Johannesburg Airport, follow signs to R21/Boksburg to find the N12). Please note that you will pass through one (or 2 if coming from Pretoria) toll booth/gate (they only accept cash). Continue past Witbank and Middleberg, staying on the N4 highway. Continue on the N4, and take the R33 off-ramp to Belfast.
From Belfast, follow the R540 to Dullstroom and Lydenburg/Mashishing. From here, follow the R36 to Ohrigstad and Tzaneen - in Lydenburg town centre, do NOT follow the signs to Kruger and Sabie. Travel through Ohrigstad, and then on through the Abel Erasmus pass and through the JG Strydom tunnel. Once through the tunnel, continue on the R36 until you see the R36 turning to the left to Tzaneen. DO NOT take this left turning to Tzaneen, but continue straight on what is now the R527 to Hoedspruit.
On arrival in Hoedspruit, travel straight through town until you reach the second 4 way stop (after you crossed over the bridge) - turn right on the R40 (White River) Travel some 6-7 km out of town, and take the left turning marked Timbavati and Eastgate/Hoedspruit Airport. Travel through the Guernsey Control Gate (first green gate) and go past the airport. Continue until you reach the Timbavati Game Reserve entrance gate and then follow the directions as above.
From Kruger National Park/Orpen Gate: Exit the Park, and continue along the R531.
