The Entabeni Private Game Reserve is 22,000 hectares of malaria-free, unspoilt game viewing wilderness in the beautiful Waterberg mountain range, less than a 3 hour drive from Johannesburg.

Guests can enjoy guided game drives and bush walks with qualified rangers to view Africa's wildlife. Lion are often seen on game drives, and the elephants that roam the reserve make for awesome viewing. Rhino are very frequently encountered. The ever elusive leopard can also be seen if you are lucky, and even a fleeting glance is a privilege and definitely a highlight of any safari.

There are also an amazing variety of birds on the reserve.

As well as game drives, guests can also participate in horse riding, quad biking and even helicopter flights and hot air balloon flights, all which add up to a safari experience 'beyond comparison'.

The reserve also has 2 Wellness/beauty centres for the ultimate relaxation, and the opportunity to visit the Pedi Cultural village for an authentic glimpse into the lives, celebrations and traditions of one of South Africa's indigenous tribes.

Set on the banks of Lake Entabeni, Kingfisher Lodge is the most exclusive and luxurious of all the lodges in Entabeni, offering superb personalized service. The 7 deluxe bedrooms and their en-suite bathrooms are stylishly decorated and feature fireplaces, mini bars and private decks. There is also one honeymoon suite which features an exquisite 4 poster bed and jacuzzi bath. All suites have breathtaking views across the wetlands and vast open plains.

The sparkling pool set in lush garden surroundings is an ideal setting to relax between game drives, while the boma with its lanterns under African skies creates magical evenings.

Children Policy

Children of any age are welcome. Rates available on request. Children under 6 years of age are not allowed on normal game drives, but can participate in the Little Legends Children Programme whilst their parents are out on their drives (additional cost).

Children under the age of 16 years are not permitted on guided walks in the reserve.

Bush Walks / Walking Safaris

Children under the age of 16 years are not permitted on guided bush walks in the reserve. The final decision on whether a guest can join a guided bush walk remains with the guide and lodge manager.

Situated in a malaria-free area, Kingfisher Lodge is the ideal environment for families, and offers the Little Legends child programme - a range of fun and educational activities, especially suited to children.

Specific activities offered here are a mini ranger course - including tracking and spoor reading, tree and bird identification, animal dung identification, water purifying and star gazing.

Children are also taken for picnics and swims in the natural pools and in the evenings, a special table is set where the rangers join their smaller guests for dinner and story telling.

Other activities like horse riding and visits to the Wildlife Centre and the Pedi Cultural Village are available on request. ::

Directions For Drivers

Important Notice: It is recommended that guests follow these directions instead of relying on a GPS as game fencing restricts access to certain roads in rural areas.

From Johannesburg: Take the N1 North Highway from Pretoria to Polokwane (Pietersburg). Keep on the N1 through the Carousel and Kranskop Tollgates. Travel a further 32 km on the N1. Take the Mookgopong (Naboomspruit) R101A offramp/exit (Route 289).

Drive 8 km to Mookgopong. Turn left at the 2nd set of traffic lights in the town centre (R520) into Nelson Mandela Road. Continue on the R520 for 11 km until you reach a T-junction. Turn left and continue for 500m and turn right at the Marken sign. Keep on the tar road for 24 km. The road becomes a gravel road.

Continue on this road for another 21.5 km. You'll see an Entabeni sign on the righthand side. Turn right and drive 3.3 km on a dirt road until you reach the security entrance gate. For self-drive visitors, there is a R55 per vehicle entry fee, payable at the entrance gate in cash.

Do not get out of your car until you reach the lodge. You may see some wildlife on your way - if you do, slow down and maintain a good distance. Do not drive off-road in any circumstances.

General Information For Guests

All the deluxe rooms each have a fireplace, mini bar (stocked on request) and a private viewing deck, as well as air conditioning, a telephone, tea/coffee making facilties, a safe and a hair dryer.

The honeymoon suite features an exquisite four poster bed and a Jacuzzi bath with breath-taking views of the lake.

The lodge has a spacious lounge/dining room, which opens onto a wooden deck. Meals are taken in the restaurant, deck, or in the traditional boma enclosure. Private dinners on your own deck or in the room in front of the fireplace can also be arranged. Also a romantic meal for 2 can also be organized on the bottom deck close to the lake. Various bush-braai and picnic venues are available for added excitement.

Additional activities available at Kingfisher Lodge aside from morning and afternoon game drives include bush walks, horse riding, mountain biking, hot air balloon flights, quad biking, golf, visits to the wildlife centre, scenic helicopter flights and cultural tours. These can be prebooked in advance or upon arrival - costs on request. Please note there is a minimum number of 8 guests for the balloon flight, so this is reliant on other guests also wanting to do the activity unless your group size is 8+.

The lodge is also equipped to accommodate guests with mobility challenges.

There is a swimming pool in the main area.
