Summary Of The Route and Costs
This 12 night itinerary for travel over the Christmas period may give Santa and his reindeer a slightly longer journey to get the presents to you, but we are sure he won't mind!
You start with 4 nights in Cape Town, giving you time to explore the major attractions such as Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula (including swimming with the penguins at Boulders Beach), and still have enough time to visit the Two Oceans Aquarium or ride on the Cape Town Wheel.
From Cape Town, you drive to Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo, where you can meet meerkats, visit ostrich farms and a cheetah sanctuary, or take a guided tour of the famous Cango Caves.
It is then only a short drive down to the Garden Route where you will have a couple of days to see attractions including Monkeyland and Birds of Eden, the elephant sanctuary at Plettenberg Bay and take a boat trip on the Knysna Lagoon. You will stay at the Robberg Beach Lodge, just a 2 minute walk from the safe Blue Flag Robberg Beach - ideal for swimming and long beach walks if you just want a few hours of downtime after all the exploring.
From the Garden Route it is only a couple of hours drive to the malaria-free Amakhala Game Reserve, where you will stay in a family-friendly lodge in the very heart of the reserve. Day and night game viewing trips under guidance of professional game rangers take you in search of the Big 5' - lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard - as well as cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and plenty of antelope species.
You end with one last night on the beach at Port Elizabeth before flying home.

Arrive into Cape Town Airport. Collect your luggage then make your way into the Arrivals Hall. Follow the Car Rental signs and find the Europcar Rental office. Complete the necessary paperwork - you will need to present your driving licence, passport and credit card. The keys to your hire car will then be handed over to you.

Drive to The Cullinan Hotel, situated just on the edge of the vibrant V&A Waterfront, with postcard views of the harbour and Signal Hill.
After breakfast you depart Cape Town and drive the scenic Route 62 to Oudtshoorn (approx 490 km / 5 h 0 mins), the ostrich capital of South Africa.
The Klein Karoo
Later today you will drive to Plettenberg Bay (approx 155 km / 1 h 50 mins), set in a curving bay with a backdrop of rugged mountains, and home to some of the best beaches along the Garden Route.
The Garden Route
This morning after breakfast you will continue along the N2 and drive to Amakhala Game Reserve (approx 280 km / 2 h 50 mins). The 7,200 hectare Amakhala Game Reserve is an ideal environment for an unforgettable safari in a varied landscape, including breathtaking views of the Bushman's River, and guests here can enjoy a range of morning and evening safaris and other activities.

After your early morning game drive and a leisurely breakfast, check out and drive to Port Elizabeth (approx 70 km / 50 mins), a popular holiday destination and renowned for its beautiful coastline and long sandy beaches.
