Summary Of The Route and Costs
If you are looking for something different and you are interested in nature and scenery, and certainly if this is your second or even third time to South Africa, this trip will showcase some hidden gems.
You'll begin your trip in Port Elizabeth, at the far end of the Garden Route. Here, you can shake off the jetlag in a 5* boutique hotel for the first night away and relax in the tranquil courtyard.
Fully refreshed, you will then head to Addo Elephant National Park where you'll stay for 3 nights in a luxurious tented suite that breathes the spirit of safari. At sunrise and sunset you'll set out on exciting game drives, watching dozens of elephant gather at the waterholes in the first and last light of day.
Your next stop is just outside the small town of Oudtshoorn - the ostrich capital of the world. Here, you can test the unbelievable strength of an ostrich egg shell - by standing on it without it cracking! A visit to the impressive Cango Caves is also a good way to spend a few hours during your stay here, but the highlight is the morning meerkat safari where you sit and observe these cheeky inquisitive creatures as they go about their morning routine of foraging and frolicking.
Now you head towards the coast and onto Grootbos Nature Reserve. With breathtaking panoramic views of mountain and sea, this is a luxurious pristine paradise showcasing the splendour of the Cape Floral Kingdom and the incredible marine life of the southern tip of Africa. Your time at Grootbos will mean that you’ll never look at plants and flowers in quite the same way again.
Your trip will end in Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the entire world.

After your morning game drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast, then you will set off for the drive to Oudtshoorn (allow about 5 hours). Your meerkat tour commences at sunrise and is wholly dependent on fair weather, since these little creatures will not venture outside their burrows on cold and rainy days. The meerkat tours last between 2-3 hours and booking is essential. Upon arrival at the meerkat burrows, guests are treated to a hot cup of coffee, after which they are issued with a lightweight aluminium chair to sit in while observing the meerkats as they come out of the burrow into the sunshine and then go about their daily routine of foraging and frolicking. These habituated wild animals are never fed or handled by humans. Tours are presented by JD Glinister and his team and it is a fantastic experience and a unique privilege to get this close to these little creatures in the wild.
Allow about 4 hours for the drive to your next destination. Nestled in an ancient Milkwood forest surrounded by rolling hills of fynbos and majestic mountains, the accommodation at Grootbos offer a complete immersion into the pristine natural surroundings within the gentle embrace of comfort and luxury.
