Ants Reserve

Ant's Nest Location Map

Ant's Nest is a unique bush home situated on a private game reserve in South Africa's Northern Province. Owned by Ant and Tessa Baber, they treat you to the best of the Waterberg. Nestled in the arms of a natural amphitheatre, Ant's Nest ensures you a secluded and private game viewing experience.

Ant and Tessa's bush home is an ideal place to escape to, where one can lose oneself in the African bush and enjoy hospitality that knows no bounds. You are ensured of personal service, privacy and a warm welcome at all times.

Ant's Nest is home to a wide and diverse variety of wildlife (no big cats or elephants), flora and fauna, all of which can be explored in a variety of ways - on horseback, in the comfort of an open 4x4 land cruiser, or on an informative and interactive guided bush walk. Game drives to a neighbouring Big 5 reserve can be arranged at an additional cost. Tracking rhino or giraffe from horseback is by far the most exhilarating and intimate way of viewing game in their natural habitat - any riding ability can be catered for.

This secluded bush home caters for a maximum of 12 people, with 6 spacious en-suite bedrooms on offer. There is the Sable Suite - a deluxe 2 bedroom family suite upstairs in the main building; the Davidson - 2 adjacent standard rooms in the main building on the ground floor; the Weaver Suite - a deluxe suite with a 4 poster bed and a large veranda; and a Rondavel - also with a 4 poster bed and an outdoor shower.

Surrounding the lodge are beautiful landscaped gardens filled with indigenous succulents and plants. The plunge pool is a popular feature, especially on hot sunny afternoons.

Ant's Nest takes pride in its sumptuous cuisine, and offers the opportunity for guests to enjoy dining in a variety of secluded and alternative places.

Wi-Fi is available in the main lodge area.

There is a heated swimming pool.

The day normally starts with tea and coffee brought to your room as your wakeup call at a time of your choice, followed with a continental or fully cooked breakfast. Around midday they serve a light lunch, with a variety of salads and other delicious dishes, followed by high tea prior to your afternoon game viewing. A
scrumptious 3 course dinner or barbeque rounds off the day.

Activities include game drives on the reserve (no big cats or elephants), guided walks/walking safaris, horse riding, fishing, snake and reptile talks/handling, mountain biking, swimming with the horses, archery, rhino tracking, Big Five safaris in a neighbouring reserve (additional cost and prebooking is essential), night sky safaris, and visits to a local children's home.

Guests wishing to go horse-riding have to wear hard hats - there are no exceptions. Should a guest refuse to wear a hard hat they will not be able to ride. Guests will also be required to sign an indemnity prior to their first activity as well. Should you wish to receive a copy of this we would be happy to forward it to you. The lodge does have hard hats which guests are welcome to use but if they are regular riders and have their own well fitted hat we would recommend that they bring their own.

The water is filtered and safe to drink.
