Lion Camp

South Luangwa National Park

Days 1 - 5: South Luangwa National Park

Lion Camp Location Map

Lion Camp is a stylish, unique and independent lodge situated in a remote part of the South Luangwa National Park, with abundant and uncongested game viewing on the doorstep. Lion Camp is also distinguished by its friendly staff, personalised service and excellent food.

Located 40 km upstream from the main Mfuwe Gate, and on the banks of an oxbow lagoon or 'wafwa', which retains a small amount of water all year, the lodge looks out onto open grassland. By day the plain is frequented by grazing mammals, and by night it becomes a hunting ground for lions.

All safari activities are led by qualified guides who will educate and enlighten you in the secrets of the Park. Game drives are conducted in open Land Rovers. Walking safaris are accompanied by an experienced and armed escort scout.

An infinity swimming pool, lower deck with sun loungers, central bar and fireplace are located in the main lodge area, along with a library and small shop.

Mealtimes at Lion Camp are social occasions and are highly convivial, with fabulous food and plenty of stories from your Lion Camp hosts. Lunch is buffet style, and the evening meal is plated.

Lion Camp has 8 luxury suites. with canvas walls and a thatch room. During the day, the netting at the front of the tent can be tied back to access a shaded private deck directly from the bedroom. Bathrooms are off to the side to provide more privacy, whilst ensuring an unobstructed view out. Evening breeze cooling units have been installed for maximum comfort in the hotter months. These units along with the rest of the camp are solar-powered.

The 2 private deluxe suites maximise the prime locations at the end of the camp. They are similar in design to the luxury suites but are larger and have secluded outdoor bathtubs. The Lagoon Suite can be either twin or double and an extra bed can be added to accommodate a young child. The Sunset Suite is the honeymoon suite. It has one king-size bed and a large wrap-around deck with 180 degree views of the plain. It is the furthest suite from the main area of the camp and its seclusion makes it perfect for honeymoon couples.

Anabezi Luxury Tented Camp

Lower Zambezi National Park

Days 6 - 9: Lower Zambezi National Park

Anabezi Luxury Tented Camp Location Map

Anabezi is located on the banks of the Zambezi River at the lower end of the Lower Zambezi National Park. The name Anabezi is derived from the many Ana Trees or Winterthorns that surround the camp. These Winterthorns drop corn yellow pods which attract a wide variety of animals to the area including many elephants- always a welcome sight in the camp.

Equipped with 4 person game drive vehicles specifically designed to keep you comfortable and safe. Venture out in the early morning or the late afternoon to witness the glory of the bush. Enjoy a sundowner watching elephants crossing the mighty Zambezi, or your coffee in the morning in the absolute splendour of the Winterthorn forest after an exciting morning tracking lion. If you’d like to spot a leopard, genet or civet cat, you’re most likely to do so on one of the night drives. You might even catch a pride of lions hunting their next feast.

The very best way to get close up and personal with the animals that spend their days in the water is on one of the guided boat safaris. This is also one of the few places in Africa where you can do a canoeing safari. With the gentle lap of water against the canoe, you will be introduced to everything that lives along the riverbanks and in the river. From rare birdlife to hippo pods and lazy crocodiles, it is truly an adventure to remember.

Guests can also explore the wonders of the Zambezi on foot as one of the experienced guides takes you through the Park, explaining the different types and uses of plants and the art of tracking animals.

Whether a keen angler or complete beginner, catching a tiger fish is one for the bucket list which can also be ticked off during your stay here. With a selection of rods, reels and tackle, you will be guided through the cast, play, landing, and of course the trophy shot before releasing the fish back into the water.

The camp is made up of 12 spacious, secluded tented suites, connected by raised walkways so that the game is free to pass in and out of camp, affording you unparalleled sightings from the comfort of your room. Each of the tents has an indoor bathroom and outside shower, in addition to a private plunge pool.

With main viewing decks providing magnificent views of both the Zambezi River and Mushika River flood plain, a swimming pool overlooking the river and central fire-pit to keep you warm as the day turns to night, you’re promised nothing less than stylish luxury.

A walking tour of The Falls is a must for anyone staying here. First described to Europe by explorer David Livingstone and known locally as the Mosi-oa-Tunya, or “the Smoke that Thunders”, the Falls make a constant roar and are accompanied by a cloud of brilliant spray where the mile wide Upper Zambezi falls 300 feet into the Lower Zambezi. In addition, there can be few more thrilling ways to experience and understand African wildlife and the bush as a whole than by being on foot on a walking safari. The walking safaris are conducted at a leisurely pace and take about two hours. Morning walks depart at around 06:30 and include a break with tea, coffee and snacks. The afternoon walk start at around 16:00 and finish at a special sundowner spot where guests will be served drinks and canapés while enjoying the magnificent sunset.

Guests can also relax on a Zambezi River sundowner cruise - a truly great way to spend a couple of hours. Sipping on a cocktail while watching the sunset over the majestic Zambezi River is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Local village visits can also be arranged, as can fishing trips, and canoe excursions.
