Mara Leisure Camp

Mara Leisure Camp

Masai Mara

Mara Leisure Camp Location Map

Set in what is considered Kenya's prime wildlife area, Mara Leisure Camp is located along the Talek River, at the confluence of the Masai Mara's 4 wildlife viewing areas, on the northern boundary of the Masai Mara National Reserve.

During July and August, the Masai Mara is home to one of the most exciting spectacles in the world - the 'Great Migration', where 2 million wildebeest, zebras and other herbivores pass through the Masai Mara/Serengeti ecosystem in Kenya and Tanzania. This is a perilous migration for the animals, where they encounter many river crossings, and have to run the gauntlet of crocodiles in waiting.

Game drives are available both morning and evening using Mara Leisure Camp’s vehicles and knowledgeable driver guides. Alternatively, guests may opt to use their own vehicles and private driver-guide.  Wildlife that you may encounter includes elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, waterbuck, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and warthog. On a lucky day one is likely to see a cheetah, the fastest animal in Africa. Walking safaris are also available on request.

In between the wildlife activities relax and take a swim in the pool as you sip a cocktail from the barman's selection.

A variety of accommodation is offered at Mara Leisure Camp.  Thirteen Nyati tents have twin beds and create a safari atmosphere that will not disappoint, with lovely wooden floors and safari style furnishings. The 9 Jumbo Tents are, as the name suggests, more spacious and have a double bed. Two of these tents inter-connect, which makes a perfect family tent. If you don't want to sleep under canvas, then there are 3 cottages available too. All the cottages inter-connect between a double room and a twin room and are suibable for families.

This area is home to the Masai people - a tribe that hasn't had its colorful culture changed much over the centuries. For those who want to know more about Masai culture, the camp can organize a visit and tour to local villages where you can learn more of the Masai culture and purchase their hand made local crafts, in turn supporting their existence and lifestyle within the reserve.
