Elephant Valley Lodge

Chobe National Park

Elephant Valley Lodge Location Map

Elephant Valley Lodge lies between the Chobe National Park in Botswana and the equally impressive Matetsi wildlife conservancy, south of the Kazangula border crossing and within the Kasane Forest Reserve.

The lodge overlooks an extremely active waterhole, and a game viewing hide provides the perfect place to sit and watch the wildlife. Other activities include morning boat cruises along the Chobe River or a game drive in the Kasane Forest Reserve, or exploring the Chobe National Park in an open game vehicle, and stopping for a late afternoon sundowner along the river to capture the sunset on camera.

The Chobe National Park is most famous for its elephant population. Today, it is home to an estimated 100,000 elephants - which is believed to be the highest concentration of elephants to be found anywhere in the world. But it is not only elephants that live here in huge numbers - huge herds of buffalo, zebra and lechwe (a type of antelope) are also common sightings, and with such large numbers it isn't hard to spot the predators lying in wait. Lion are never far away and are often seen in large prides, lazing around in the shade during the heat of the day and slowly awakening themselves at dusk. Hyena, leopard and cheetah can also be found here.

The camp comprises 20 'meru' style luxury safari tents and can accommodate a maximum of 40 guests.  There are 12 Forest Tents (including one Family Tent) in the shady canopy of trees surrounding the swimming pool, and 8 Valley Tents which have views overlooking the valley and waterhole.

The main lodge area has a lounge and outdoor dining area (boma), where dinner is taken al fresco under the African starry night. There is also a curio/gift shop and a swimming pool.

General Information For Guests

The tents all have an en-suite shower, toilet and basins plus tea/coffee making facilities, a fan, (electric blankets in winter), hair dryer, safe, mosquito nets and charging points. They also each have a veranda with seating so that you can relax outside your room and enjoy the views and amazing wildlife.

There is an attractive open lounge, bar and upper outside viewing deck. This connects to an under-cover dining area with an outside dining deck. Sun loungers, day beds and comfortable seating surround the rim-flow pool. Paths from here lead to game viewing platform and a traditional out-door ‘Boma’ where evening meals are often served.

All these facilities have views over-looking the valley and water-hole which attracts a wide variety of game, particularly elephant. In the forest area surrounded by lawns and acacia trees, is a second swimming pool.

There is also a gift shop next to the reception, selling curios and some guest amenities.

The activities available at Elephant Valley Lodge include morning and afternoon game drives, boat safaris along the Chobe River and bird watching. Photography tuition on safari activities is available on request.

Day trips to Victoria Falls are also available. The Falls are only about an hour’s drive away from the lodge and a day trip can easily be arranged, either prior to or after arrival at the lodge. Guests depart the lodge after breakfast around 8:00 and arrive back at the lodge before 18:00 (additional cost).

A laundry service is available.
