At the foot of the Warmwaterberg, in the heart of the Little Karoo, between Montagu and Barrydale on the famous Route 62, lies the stunning malaria-free Sanbona Wildlife Reserve - 58,000 hectares of undulating mountains and plains, indigenous fauna and flora, rock formations and rock art.
The sheer expanse and stark beauty of the reserve gives one a sense of humbleness, the realization of the inconsequentialities of life, and a temporary release of the daily stresses of everyday living.
Traverse the landscape of the reserve with a qualified ranger in comfortable open Land Rovers. During the drive, be it in the early morning or for sundowners, various species of plants, animals, big game and birds can be seen. Sundowner evening drives offer spectacular displays of light as the evening sun sets over the Little Karoo.
Guests can also enjoy a boat safari, in search of hippos and birds such as fish eagles, grey herons and Egyptian geese.
Sanbona has also initiated a unique conservation programme that aims to breed the white lion for release into the wild.
The 9 luxurious and secluded tents at Dwyka Tented Lodge exude an atmosphere of pioneering adventure in this vast landscape.
All tents have indoor and outdoor showers, private mini bars, private plunge pools and decks, and underfloor heating.
There is also a relaxation retreat with 2 treatment rooms for guests to take advantage of inbetween activities. The main guest area also has a bar/lounge area with a fireplace and TV, a dining area, and an open air boma.
Special offers for longer stays or when booked as part of a longer itinerary may apply - details on request.

Dwyka exceeded our expectations: beautiful accommodations, pampering services, excellent guide - we learned a great deal about the flora and fauna and had an exciting time on the game drives. Solomon was excellent.
Dwyka exceeded our expectations: beautiful accommodations, pampering services, excellent guide --we learned a great deal about the flora and fauna and had an exciting time on the game drives. Solomon was excellent. The drivers of Springbok Atlas were always reliable, arrived early to pick us up, and slow, careful drivers. Thank you!
All were very good but the stand out place for us was Dwyka which was the most amazing place we have ever stayed in and would strongly recommend for future guests. The safari was fantastic and I can't imagine it would be much better in the Eastern Cape. We didn't see everything but then it stopped it feeling like a zoo as we had to try and find them. Staff were also very good.
Thanks to Natasha for her patience in helping us put together the perfect honeymoon (which it was!).
