Lagoon Camp

Lagoon Camp

Kwando Concession

Lagoon Camp Location Map

Lagoon Camp is perched on the banks of the Kwando River, and is nestled beneath towering ebony and marula trees within the private Kwando Concession - currently the largest private wildlife reserve in Botswana, covering 2,320 square kilometers of unfenced wilderness in the far north of the country.

During the dry winter months (June/July/August), large herds of elephant drink at the river bank near to the camp in full view of the main deck, while playful spotted-necked otters are commonly seen performing in the water. The Lagoon wild dog pack regularly den close to the camp and the excellent viewing opportunities have led to Lagoon's reputation as the place to see wild dog in Botswana.

Activities offered at the camp include walks (seasonal) and game drives (both off road and at night).

Another special feature of the camp is the afternoon river cruise. The unique double deck boat allows several guests the opportunity to drift along the river while enjoying spectacular views, mammal and bird life while sipping at your 'sundowner' of choice. For those guests who enjoy fishing, there is ample room to throw a line in the water while the boat meanders along.

The 8 en-suite tents all offer picturesque views over the river.  Each tent has a private deck, a spacious living area and an en-suite bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a bathtub for an enjoyable afternoon soak.

There is also a 2 bedroom family tent adjacent to the main area.

The main areas of the camp include a bar and sitting area, outdoor deck with a swing, dining area, curio shop, orientation centre, and a cosy second-level library overlooking the river.

General Information For Guests

Each tent has a private deck, a spacious living area and an en-suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers and double washbasins. All tents have cooled thatched roofs, ceiling fans and a safe if needed.

The family tent has 2 entrances (one to the twin bedroom and the other to the main bedroom and living area). The family tent shares the same en-suite bathroom facilities.

The main thatched areas of the camp include a bar/lounge, dining area, curio shop and second-level library overlooking the river. The camp also has a plunge pool and outdoor deck with a swing. A laundry service is offered on a complimentary basis and credit card services are also available.

The game drive involves both a guide and tracker, this adds to the experience on 2 levels. You have 2 sets of eyes searching out the action, looking for tracks – this ensures a good chance of sightings, especially predators. In addition, having the tracker out front, concentrating on tracking, means that the guide is more able to talk to clients, keep them informed and to answer any questions.

As Lagoon Camp is in a private concession the guides can go off road in search of sightings and have often been able to follow the wild dogs on their hunts. It also means that the lodge can do night drives with spotlights. 30% of fascinating mammals are mainly active at night, so this offers more opportunities to view them.

Game walks are also available, and the length of the walk can be adjusted to suit your personal desires, or level of fitness. The walks are comfortable strolls, meant to provide you with a chance to experience the wilderness and open your eyes to a new and fascinating world. Any walk can be combined with a game drive or mokoro ride.

Fishing is also offered at Lagoon Camp for 10 months of the year, but is prohibited in January and February as this is the peak breeding season. Basic equipment is supplied, but avid fly-fishers are advised to bring their own equipment.

There is a double deck boat available for sunset cruises, the perfect way to spend an evening, meandering the waterways and watching the sun go down.
