Kanana Camp

Okavango Delta

Days 5 - 6: Okavango Delta

Kanana Camp Location Map

Kanana Camp is a hidden jewel, set in a private concession on the Xudum River in the southwest Okavango Delta. The area encompasses a necklace of islands dotted with palms, figs, ebony and knobthorn trees, and is home to a myriad of birds, plants and animals. The nature of the habitat means this is the perfect place to experience the diversity of species found in the Delta. Wildlife is in abundance with frequent predator sightings such as lion, leopard and wild dog all making Kanana their hunting grounds.

A wide variety of activities are available for guests to enjoy and participate in, and the focus of the activities varies with the rising and falling levels of the Delta.

Game drives in specially designed open safari vehicles (seating 4 people only) in the morning and late afternoon are available throughout the year, with the afternoon drives often continuing into the evening.  When the Delta water levels are high due to the annual floods, parts of the concession are transformed into a true water paradise and guests can explore the crystal clear waterways by mokoro or power boats as well.

Birding is spectacular and as an added bonus for 'twitchers', Kanana plays host to a seasonal heronry that is one of the largest in Southern Africa and which teems with activity from July through to the summer months.

Guided bush walks are another activity, as is fishing (March to December only) for tilapia, African pike and sharptooth catfish. Kanana's private concession location also allows for night drives in search of the nocturnal animals, or predators hunting.

Guests are accommodated in 7 spacious twin and double-bedded 'Meru' style safari tents, set on raised decks which offer breathtaking views across the waterways. The tents are well spaced, affording privacy whilst remaining within a comfortable distance from the main camp area. There is also one family tent with 2 bedrooms and a shared bathroom.

In-between safari activities, relax around the pool area, and enjoy evenings around the campfire set on the water's edge.

There is also a Sleep Out Deck that offers guests staying 3 or more nights the opportunity to spend the night under the splendid African night sky.
