Summary Of The Itinerary

Holiday Title: South Africa Highlights

Countries Visited: South Africa

Day 1

This morning you will be collected from your hotel, heading east to the Mpumalanga region and onto your first hotel, next to the Kruger National Park.

The Protea Hotel Kruger Gate is a luxury safari lodge-styled hotel set on the banks of the Sabie River amidst towering indigenous trees overlooking the Kruger National Park. The spacious and comfortable en-suite rooms have spectacular private verandas and walkways high in the riverine forest canopy.

After arriving at your lodge, you will have to freshen up before going on an afternoon game drive in the famous Kruger National Park, which offers some of the best game viewing and wildlife opportunities in the world. After this you will head back to the lodge for the evening. After an exciting day on safari, you can relax at the pool or enjoy sundowners on a game-viewing deck that overlooks the Park.

Day 2

The day begins with early morning coffee or tea, followed by a thrilling open vehicle game drive (with English speaking game ranger) through Kruger National Park with a pre-packed breakfast. Unrivalled in its diversity of flora and fauna, your guide will endeavour to spoil you with sightings of the Big 5, general game and prolific bird life. You will then return to the lodge for lunch (for own account) and a short siesta, before heading out again in the afternoon.

Day 3

After breakfast you will set out to explore the magnificent Panorama Route, one of the most scenic routes in the region, offering glorious views, spectacular landscapes and exquisite waterfalls. Visit majestic sights including God's Window, the Three Rondawels and Blyde River Canyon - the third largest canyon of its kind in the world, Bourke's Luck Potholes and the charming village of Graskop, one of the first gold mining camps in the country. You will then return to the lodge for dinner in the evening.

Day 4

Enjoy breakfast before starting the return journey to Johannesburg. You will arrive in OR Tambo International Airport, at approximately 14:30, for your onward flight to Cape Town.

British Airways BA6427 (Economy Class): Fly from O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) departing at 16:00 to Cape Town International Airport (CPT), arriving at 18:10

Upon arrival in Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa, spectacularly set at the foot of Table Mountain, you will be met and transferred to your hotel, where the remainder of the day is yours to relax or explore the city.

Set in the heart of Sea Point, only minutes away from Cape Town's city centre and the V&A Waterfront, the Protea Hotel Sea Point offers contemporary comfort blended with decor inspired by South African art. The en-suite rooms offer stunning mountain or sea views. Guests can relax at the sparkling plunge pool overlooking the vibrant Sea Point promenade or get active at the fitness centre.

Day 5

Today you will join a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. Drive through Sea Point, the seaside village of Hout Bay and then to Cape Point where (by tradition) it is said that the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. In the afternoon, you will return to Cape Town via the historic naval base of Simon's Town and Muizenberg to visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a centre for the preservation of the region's unique flora.

Day 6

Enjoy a full day at leisure. Perhaps join a sightseeing tour to Table Mountain (for own account) or simply explore the city. Although a small city, Cape Town is packed with sightseeing attractions, excellent bars, cafes and restaurants as well as colourful craft markets. There is also the Two Oceans Aquarium, Robben Island or alternatively relax on one of Cape Town's many beaches.

Day 7

Today you will leave Cape Town and travel to Mossel Bay, travelling through the picturesque Sir Lowry's Pass, surrounded by magnificent mountains. Stop for coffee and a short rest at a farm stall at the top of the pass before continuing on your journey. The journey continues through Caledon, Napier and Bredasdorp on your way to Cape Agulhas. You will spend some time at the Cape Agulhas lighthouse before departing for lunch in Swellendam. Thereafter continue onward to Mossel Bay, where you will then arrive at your overnight accommodation.

The Diaz Hotel and Resort is in the seashore town of Mossel Bay, a small slice of coastal paradise along the celebrated Garden Route. The hotel occupies an enviable space that allows it to have breathtaking sea views from every window and balcony and promises complete relaxation. There is an enticing rim flow pool as well as a Water Park that is set right alongside the ocean to provide entertainment for in-house guests.

Day 8

After breakfast, the journey continues through the Robinson Pass to Oudshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world and home to the spectacular limestone caverns of the Cango Caves. In the afternoon, you will visit an Ostrich Farm for a guided tour, and then enjoy a wine tasting at a local wine estate before setting off on a tour of the Cango Caves, one of the world's great natural wonders, sculpted by nature through the ages. After this, you will head to your overnight accommodation in Oudtshoorn.

La Plume is a family-owned 1902 Victorian homestead on a working ostrich, alfalfa and vine farm outside the town of Oudtshoorn offering warm country hospitality and accommodations in refined style, all with sweeping views across the Olifant's River Valley to the Swartberg Mountains. The spacious en-suite rooms are tastefully furnished with gracious antiques and offer all modern conveniences.

Day 9

After breakfast, travel over the Outeniqua Pass to George, the sixth oldest town in South Africa, with many historical landmarks such as the Slave Tree and King Edward VII Library building; said to be the best example of Edwardian architecture in the town. The tour travels via Wilderness, an attractive holiday resort to Knysna, known as the oyster box of South Africa, nestling on the banks of a beautiful lagoon in the heart of the Garden Route. Enjoy a lagoon cruise to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, where you can take a trailer ride to the top of the Western Head to enjoy panoramic views of the town and lagoon, before returning for lunch under the milkwood trees. The afternoon can be spent further exploring this charming town, before being transferred to your hotel.

The Rex Hotel is renowned for its chic urban style and impeccable service. Located in the vibrant seaside town of Knysna and surrounded by beaches, forests and lakes, this elegant retreat is the perfect base from which to explore all the attractions of the world-famous Garden Route.

Day 10

Today you will have the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the Knysna area. Your journey will include a visit to the Garden of Eden, set in the lush, green, indigenous Knysna forest. The major attraction is the forest itself, beautiful yellow wood trees, thick green foliage and streams. Afterwards you can visit the Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, where you will be able to see a variety of primates, roaming free in the forest. The sanctuary is well known for its efforts to rehabilitate and free previously caged primates. The tour continues to the famous Eastern Head, where you will enjoy spectacular views of the Knysna Heads (weather permitting). Afterwards you'll travel to Brenton on Sea, a breathtaking holiday location and a nature lover's paradise with its unspoilt beaches and peaceful surroundings.
