Karen Blixen Camp
Masai Mara
Days 1 - 3: Masai Mara
Karen Blixen Camp is situated in the pristine Mara North Conservancy, which borders the Masai Mara Game Reserve. This eco-friendly luxury camp gives a sense of the exciting explorer days, when the savannah was seldom visited and elaborate and comfortable camps were set up providing a luxurious and stylish retreat after each day’s adventure.
Daily morning and afternoon/night game drives are enjoyed within the Mara North Conservancy for the utmost exclusive and private safari experience with low impact tourism controlled vehicle density. On request and during the Great Migration, you also have the opportunity for a full day game drive in the Masai Mara National Reserve.
Game walking can also be arranged for those who wish to experience the magnitude of the Mara savannah on foot. Shorter nature walks are kept within the camp and focus entirely on the rich birdlife and little insects inhabiting the area and how the Masai make use of the indigenous plants for medical and ritual purposes.
Karen Blixen Camp comprises 22 large luxury canvas tents each placed with undisturbed view along the Mara River. The family option consists of two tents with a shared verandah.
The open plan ‘mess’ area, built on a raised wooden deck, is located on the banks of the Mara River overlooking a resident hippo pod. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served in the restaurant or bush garden from where one has an incredible close view of the Mara River and the wild animals coming to drink. For guests wanting to venture a little further, romantic bush dinners can be arranged underneath the starlit African night.
The swimming pool has sunbeds and umbrellas for shade from the African sun. A wide range of wellness treatments and therapeutic body massages are also offered by trained therapists (additional cost).
