The honeymoon starts as soon as you hop aboard a light aircraft and fly directly into the heart of the Madikwe Game Reserve for a 3 night safari. Madikwe’s wooded hills give way to savannah and Kalahari plains, roamed by all of the Big Five and countless other mammals. Look up and you will see hundreds of resident and migrant birds gracing the skies. Coupled with the reserve being malaria-free, this all makes for a special place to explore before you head to Mauritius to enjoy a week relaxing on the beach where you can escape back through time and enjoy the romance of yesteryear at your 5* hotel.
You begin with an hour flight to the reserve when on landing you are met by your ranger and transferred to your lodge. While the luxury of being on safari at Madikwe Safari Lodge lies in having direct access to some of South Africa’s best Big Five safari experiences, it is also the pleasure of coming back to thoughtful comforts, warm hospitality and excellent meals after several hours in the bush that defines your 5* stay here. After one night back at the 5* InterContinental Hotel at the airport, it is time to board your morning flight to Mauritius.

Arrive into Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport. Go through Immigration, collect your luggage and clear Customs, then make your way into the Arrivals Hall where you will be met by a representative from FedAir. You will then be transferred to the private FedAir departure lounge where you can relax before boarding your flight across to the Game Reserve. The lounge serves a selection of complimentary hot beverages and cold soft drinks, as well as sandwiches, fruit and other snacks. Please note that there is a baggage restriction of 20 kg per person and you have to have a 'soft' bag (for easy storage in the plane). Any excess luggage can be left safely with FedAir which you can then pick up when you return after your time on safari.
FedAir 103 (Light Aircraft): Fly from Johannesburg OR Tambo (JNB) departing at 11:00 to Madikwe Airstrip, arriving at 12:00
You will be met at the airstrip and transferred to Madikwe Safari Lodge, where you can check into your room and enjoy lunch. Daily game drives head out late afternoon just before sunset and again early morning at sunrise in search of the many animal species which call this place home. No more than 8 people at a time share in a private and intensely personal safari experience in the company of their Madikwe Safari Lodge guide.
Madikwe Game Reserve
After you return from your morning game drive, you will have time to enjoy a leisurely breakfast before you need to check out of your room. You can then relax around the main lodge guest areas before it is time to depart for the trip back to the airstrip where you will board your afternoon flight back to Johannesburg.
FedAir 104 (Light Aircraft): Fly from Madikwe Airstrip departing at 12:15 to Johannesburg OR Tambo (JNB), arriving at 13:15
You will be transferred to the InterContinental Hotel where you will spend just one night.
Cross the road outside the hotel and make your way to the International Departure Terminal where you will check in for your flight to Mauritius. Passengers are advised to check in 2.5-3 hours prior to the flight departure time.
South African Airways SA190 (Economy Class): Fly from O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) departing at 09:40 to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), arriving at 15:40
Arrive into Mauritius Airport. Go through Immigration, collect your luggage and clear Customs, then make your way into the Arrivals Hall. You will be met by our representative in Mauritius and welcomed to the island and then transferred to your hotel.
Mauritius has long been a popular destination for honeymooners looking to combine the excitement of mainland Africa with a tropical beach destination. White sandy beaches are lapped by the crystal clear warm blue ocean and fringed with palm trees that sway gently in the breeze. For the more active, there is an abundance of watersports on offer including snorkelling, water-skiing, para-sailing, sailing and windsurfing.
You will need to check out of your room this morning but you can remain at the hotel and use all the facilities until you are collected for your transfer back to the airport. Alternatively, if you have an evening flight, the hotel may be able to arrange a late check out for you (additional cost and payable directly to the hotel) subject to the availability of the room.
