Experience the haunting beauty of the Namib Desert at AndBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, situated in the foothills of the private NamibRand Nature Reserve in Namibia. This extraordinary lodge is renowned for its luxurious and private accommodation.
Thanks to conservation efforts, the NamibRand spans 180,000 hectares of pristine desert wilderness, and is the largest private nature reserve in Southern Africa.
The Namib - known as 'The Living Desert' - is a world of vast space, endless horizons, dramatic desertscapes and jagged mountain heights.
Led by Sossusvlei's expert rangers and naturalists, explore the desert by quadbikes (all-terrain four-wheeled motorcycles), open 4x4 vehicles - even by hot-air balloon.
Excursions to the famous Sossusvlei sand dunes, the highest in the world, and Sesriem Canyon will add to this unforgettable desert experience.
The lodge closed in January 2019 for a complete refurbishment, and is due to open October 2019 with a brand new look that aims to showcase the setting. The lodge’s new design will allow for the addition of a gym and spa that will take the place of the existing guest areas, and will offer a viewpoint over the desert. A 2 bedroom villa will also be constructed to cater for families. New lap pools will allow guests to cool off from the desert heat and solar panels and a state-of-the-art water recycling system will ensure that every resource is protected
Currently comprising just 10 air-conditioned stone and glass desert villas, each villa is set along the curve of the escarpment, affording absolute privacy, and also features a shaded private veranda, split-level bedroom and living room with fireplace, fully-stocked personal bar, compact spotting scope and a service-intercom to the main lodge.
The current split-level main lodge features a fire-lit bar, comfortable sitting room, mezzanine library with CD and book collection, swimming pool, wraparound verandas and African gift shop. A fine selection of wines from the walk-in wine cellar complements delicious Pan-African cuisine, which is served in the glass-fronted dining room.
The pool is fed by water from an underground spring. At sunset, animals are drawn to a nearby waterhole, providing added enjoyment to a sundowner drink.
All meals; tea/coffee; 2 scheduled shared activities daily within the NamibRand Nature Reserve; house wines, local branded spirits and beers, soft drinks and bottled water; and a laundry service are included. Sossusvlei excursions can be arranged at an additional cost - rates on request.
Children of any age are welcome. Rates available on request. Children under 6 years old cannot participate in scheduled safari activities. Children aged 6-11 can participate at the lodge manager's discretion. Children under 16 cannot participate in quad bike excursions.
