Serengeti Simba Lodge

The Serengeti

Serengeti Simba Lodge Location Map

Serengeti Simba Lodge is set on top of a rocky outcrop (kopje), offering stunning views over the endless Serengeti plains in every direction. The lodge is located just outside the National Park in the Ikona Wildlife Management Area near the Grumeti River and Grumeti Reserves.

It lies on the path of the great Serengeti migration, so it's possible to see wildebeest, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle from the lodge as they make their way towards better grazing - sometimes with ravenous big cats in pursuit or crocodiles lurking in wait at river crossings.

Guests can get together in the communal areas which include the lounge, bar and dining spaces, opening out on to a deck. And the magic goes on - there's an infinity pool with a flagstone terrace and yet more breathtaking views, especially at sunset. Every evening there's a campfire. Visitors can mingle with the locals at nearby Robanda village, and dance troupes will come to the lodge on request.

Activities include day game drives in the Park, night game drives, bush breakfasts, lunches and sundowners.

The 15 'tents' offer the romance of staying in a safari tent but with the security of a more permanent structure - so they use canvas in the construction, but the rooms are built on solid stone foundations topped with a thatch roof. The en-suite bathroom is furnished with a concrete bath and an outdoor shower, and leading off from the main bedroom is a private deck from which to enjoy the views and depending which way the deck is facing, either the sunrise or the sunset. In addition, there is also a Stone House with 4 twin/double rooms and 2 family rooms which can each be booked individually.

All rooms are beautifully and simply decorated with local fabrics and hard wood furniture, and the beds all have mosquito nets.

General Information For Guests

All rooms and tents are beautifully and simply decorated with local fabrics and hard wood furniture, and the beds all have mosquito nets. Full amenities are provided including a secure safe and rooms are solar powered with solar heated water. A whistle is also provided in case you need to alert the security guards.

The common area of the lodge houses the reception, lounge, bar, dining room, viewing deck, pool with sun deck and the campfire area. There is free Wi-Fi in the inside common areas.

Due to the solar electrical system, it’s not possible to use a hair dryer at Serengeti Simba Lodge. It is requested that you don’t attempt to plug in a hair dryer as in all likelihood it will blow the system resulting in loss of power to the entire lodge.

As the solar lighting may be dimmer than you’re used to, it is highly recommended you bring a headlamp or book-light for reading in bed at night.

There is a power strip for battery charging that’s live when the lodge generator is on (approximately 6 hours per day). There is also a 24-hour charging station at reception.
