With its undulating plains, mountainous outcrops, and riverine thickets, the Okonjima Nature Reserve is home to the AfriCat Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation and welfare of Namibia's wild predators.
Since being founded in 1991, AfriCat’s mission has been to make significant contributions to conservation, while trying to ensure the survival of Namibia’s predators in their natural habitat. It undertakes research, community support and environmental education projects, as well as conservation work to rehabilitate carnivores such as cheetah and hyena.
A highlight for anyone visiting Okonjima is to learn about their big-cat passion. Leopards roam freely and hunt within the 22,000 hectare reserve, and an opportunity to see them on game drives led by experienced guides is why guests travel continents to stay here. You may also spot other rare and endangered species such as rhino and pangolin. Guests can also get involved in collecting and collating data, and assisting with actual research being conducted by AfriCat.
The Okonjima Bush Suite is situated within the secluded wilderness area of the Okonjima valley, with a backdrop of the Omboroko Mountains. Right on the edge of a nearby waterhole, the Bush Suite features only 2 separate private en-suite bedrooms under a magnificent thatched roof, which together can accommodate a family or small group of just 4 people. Each bedroom has 2 large queensize beds, a bathtub plus indoor and outdoor showers.
A wood-burning fireplace brings together the spacious lounge and dining areas, and in addition, there are outdoor dining options that guests can enjoy. Two large glass-panelled windows offer 180-degree views of the surrounding vistas. In addition, the uniquely designed mokoro-shaped pool is the perfect place to cool off in the heat of the day.

General Information For Guests
The rooms are en-suite with both indoor and outdoor showers, a bath, WC, and bidets with views of the Namibian bush. They also have air conditioning, fans, heating facilities, ample workspace and 2 large glass-panelled windows with 180-degree views of the surrounding vistas.
The Bush Suite has a wood-burning fireplace that brings together the spacious lounge and dining areas, as well as outdoor dining options. There is also a swimming pool.
The modern kitchen has wine/soft drink coolers, gas and electrical cooking facilities, and a double-door refrigerator with a built-in ice maker.
Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided, and there is mobile/cell phone connectivity.
Activities that are available include game drives, guided bush walks, visits to the AfriCat Carnivore Centre and bird watching.
Nocturnal game drives are also available (additional cost). The activity is weather dependent, and therefore, cannot be guaranteed or pre-booked.
Between early morning and afternoon game drives, guests may go on a self-guided hike along one of 3 well laid-out hiking trails. The trails vary between 4 and 6 kilometres and are clearly marked.
The discreet hosts and chefs will attend to all your needs from turn-downs to gourmet meals, to ensure a relaxed luxury safari experience.
