Jack's Camp

Makgadikgadi Pan

Jack's Camp Location Map

Jack's Camp is one of Africa's most unique camps. Set in the eastern section of the Makgadikgadi Pan, the camp is reached by a 40 minute flight from Maun. During the wet season the landscape is transformed by louds of flamingo and other migratory birds, along with herds of zebra and wildebeest who are drawn to the lush long grass.

It is not uncommon for guides to team up with local bushmen to escort you on morning walks or game drives. Four wheel drive quad bikes will allow you to venture far into the centre of the Makgadikgadi, explore remote archaeological sites and periodically discover never before documented fossil beds of extinct giant zebra and hippo.

Jack's Camp is the only place where you are virtually guaranteed to see the rare and elusive brown hyena. Close by is the famous Chapman's Baobab (also known as the Seven Sisters) which is acknowledged to be the largest tree in Africa, and was the campsite of early explorers like Livingstone and Selous when they pioneered the area. You can also get close up to a clan of meerkats.

The main camp area consists of an elegant mess tent and swimming pool as well as a number of artefacts and small library, making Jacks Camp a designated 'national museum of Botswana'. There is also a beautiful swimming pool where you can escape the heat and relax in the cool waters.

Jack's Camp has 10 spacious en-suite tents with inside and outside bathrooms, all designed in a 1940's exploration style. Each tent has uninterrupted views out over the Pan offering beautiful accommodation and an oasis of civilization in what can be the harshest of stark environments.

Afternoon tea at Jack's is a sumptuous affair and the chef goes to great trouble to create mouth-watering sweet and savoury delicacies. The meals at the camp are served in the dining tent surrounded by interesting artefacts.
