Jacana Camp

Okavango Delta

Days 1 - 2: Okavango Delta

Jacana Camp Location Map

Situated on Moremi Game Reserve's boundary, in the private Jao Concession, Jacana Camp is an island wonderland set in a wilderness area densely populated with amazing wildlife and teeming birdlife. It is a true Okavango Delta water camp, where explorations by mokoro provide an idyllic connection to a bygone era that allows silent and tranquil passage along papyrus-fringed channels.

Other activities include walking safaris, as well as game drives when the floodwaters have receded - generally between September and May. There are 2 platform hides in the concession.

The camp is 100% solar powered and set in one of the most densely populated wetland areas for sitatunga and red lechwe. Wildlife concentrations depend on the water flow and volume and thus change from season to season but all the big animals can be found regularly in the area including elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo.

The birdlife is abundant; enthusiasts can spot Pel's Fishing-Owl as well as African and Lesser Jacanas and a host of other Okavango specials such as Slaty Egret, African Pygmy-Goose and Western Banded Snake-Eagle.

Its 5 Meru-style tents are built on wooden decks to accentuate the views overlooking the floodplains. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom which is enclosed but roofless allowing for showers by starlight - or by dappled sunlight and shade.

The camp has a plunge pool for cooling off in the midday sun.

The main dining area is on an elevated platform between two magnificent sycomore fig trees and surrounded by dense wild date palms. Downstairs, there is a cosy bar and lounge with an area for an open fire under the stars.

Banoka Bush Camp

Okavango Delta

Days 3 - 4: Okavango Delta

Banoka Bush Camp Location Map

Banoka Bush Camp lies along the Khwai River, in the north of Botswana's Okavango Delta, where a multiplicity of habitats - from forest to riverine - is home to a plethora of wildlife. The Khwai River is the northernmost 'finger' of the Delta's alluvial fan. Here you can discover one of the most diverse areas in northern Botswana, with a wealth of wildlife to be seen on drives, walks and traditional mokoro rides (water level dependent).

Banoka Bush Camp is built along the tree line overlooking a lagoon, and the whole camp is raised off the ground to take in the view.

You can expect to see excellent sightings of predators including lion, wild dog, spotted hyaena and African wild cat. Huge herds of buffalo along with elephant, hippo, roan, tsessebe, reedbuck, waterbuck and red lechwe to name a few are abundant in the area. Spectacular birding opportunities also abound, with some 450 species recorded.

Activities include guided game drives, walks, and traditional mokoro rides, that allow you to float down the Khwai's secretive channels, creating that classic Savuti experience.

Accommodation is in 10 en-suite tented rooms complete with private verandas. There are 2 family tents which accommodate 2 adults and 2 children each.

The main area consists of a bar, lounge, dining area and plunge pool and deck. There is an open campfire area to relax in and discuss the day's adventures.

The camp is 100% solar powered.

DumaTau

Linyanti

Days 5 - 6: Linyanti

DumaTau Location Map

DumaTau is a tented camp located in the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve which borders the western boundary of Chobe National Park in northern Botswana. The region has all the habitat diversity to make it a haven for wildlife, and is well-known for its elephant concentrations as they congregate along the waterways and lagoons during the dry winter months. General wildlife viewing is excellent year round including impala, wildebeest, red lechwe, Burchell's zebra, giraffe, Cape buffalo, chacma baboon, vervet monkey, and warthog. Predator sightings of lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and spotted hyena are good.

Morning and afternoon game drives reveal the rich wildlife of the area where predators and elephant are often the highlight. The open 4x4 Land Cruisers each accommodate a maximum of 4 people and each guest will have a ‘window’ seat. Night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during the day. These often include lesser bushbaby, spring hare, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and, if you are extremely lucky, the elusive pangolin! Water levels permitting, guests can also explore the Linyanti River by boat or barge, the latter perfect for picnics or sundowners or searching out elusive water birds.

Depending on qualified guide availability, nature walks with skilled, armed guides are wonderful ways of getting close to nature and observing the smaller things you miss when travelling by vehicle. Scenic helicopter flights can also be arranged, offering a truly unique way to experience the wonders of the Linyanti. Seasonal fishing is also permitted on a catch-and-release basis.

The camp's extensive lagoon frontage ensures that each of the ultra-spacious guest suites has uninterrupted views over the Osprey Lagoon. In addition, the 7 twin tents and one Family Tent have a private plunge pool and a comfortable lounge, and feature a large bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers.

The main dining and lounge area boasts its own wide-angle vistas, while a wellness centre and gym includes an inviting shaded deck, a lap pool, spa, snack deli and trading store. There is a hide at the camp for those wishing to while away their siesta hour watching the active birdlife of the area, while a raised platform at the Zibalianja Lagoon is the perfect place from which to view and photograph animals and birds. This platform can also be used for an unique way to sleep out under the crystal clear African skies surrounded by nature.
