Mpala Jena Camp is an exquisite and exclusive canvas tented camp, located on a private concession within the Zambezi National Park. Overlooking a beautiful stretch of the Zambezi River shoreline, the 4 tents can accommodate a maximum of 8 guests, and have been elegantly positioned under a mixture of indigenous trees. The camp is named after the natural spring-line which runs through the centre of the concession, and attracts an abundance of wildlife throughout the year, particularly during the drier months.

This Relais & Chateau property is conveniently located 16 kilometres inside the Zambezi National Park which makes for easy access to Victoria Falls Falls but is far enough away from the hustle and bustle, allowing guests to relax and unwind.

The Zambezi National Park has a healthy and ever increasing number of wildlife species, with higher concentrations of buffalo and elephant during the months June through to October. This area is particularly good for bird watching throughout the year, but with a higher diversity of species during the months November through to April.

Start the day by heading out on a game drive in a custom built Land Cruiser, or set off on a guided walk to look for the smaller and often unseen wildlife, taking in the sights and sounds that surround you. During your stay, you will have opportunity to enjoy a one day excursion into Victoria Falls Town, including a visit to the ever impressive mass of falling water at the Victoria Falls. At the end of the day, take to the river on a boat safari and enjoy a sundowner as the sunsets.

The guest tents are under beige, flowing canvas, with canopy ceilings, Moroccan style influences and open (yet netted) views. The decking in front of each tent leads to a private plunge pool with views of the calming and peaceful flowing waters of the Zambezi River.

In addition, there is also the Mpala Jena Suite, a private and exclusive 2 bedroomed tented villa. The suite sleeps a maximum of 4 adults sharing or a party of 5 if there are children travelling with 2 parents. The 2 spacious bedrooms sit either side of a central lounge and dining area, and it also has a private plunge pool and campfire.

Mpala Jena Camp is one of the most environmentally innovative camps in Zambezi National Park; achieved through the use of recycled hardwoods and canvas and ensuring all the camp’s electricity needs come from solar power.

Children under the age of 12 years are not permitted on guided walks or canoeing activities. The final decision on whether a guest can join a guided walk remains with the guide and camp manager.

Zarafa Camp, located in the 135,000 hectare private Selinda Concession is synonymous with exclusivity and perfection. It embodies authenticity, luxury and simplicity to create a camp that as been clearly considered, and thoughtfully planned to be as environmentally sensitive as possible.

Zarafa Camp sits on an island in the floodplains of southern shores of the Zibadianja Lagoon, which is the source of the Savute Channel. Positioned in the extreme eastern side of the Selinda Reserve, its location is in prime wildlife territory.

Selinda is west (upstream) from Savute Channel and Chobe, so it has all the advantages of both of those famous areas but with the tremendous advantage of exclusivity. It is a truly spectacular and unique landscape. Exploration of this vast area defies imagination...by foot, 4x4 open game drive vehicle, and pontoon boat.

On safari it is possible to see a tremendous diversity of species, from resident prides of lion to huge herds of elephant and packs of wild dog. It is also home to the ungulates, from the rare roan to the ubiquitous zebra. Nocturnal wildlife is prolific as well, and there are frequent sightings of aardwolf and civet.

Each of the camp's 4 immense tented suites are raised up on wooden decking and shaded by a canopy of African ebony and Red ivory trees. Each tent has a private verandah, running the length of the front of the tent, which offers a private plunge pool, outdoor lounge and sweeping view of the lagoon. The Zarafa Dhow Suite is an intimate 2 bedroom exquisite tented villa with an open layout bathroom with impressive copper claw foot bath and an open fire, with copper flu, to heat the room in winter.

From the camp itself, hippos are visible in the lagoon and elephant wander through regularly. Night noises will either lull you to sleep or wake you from a deep slumber. It is an exciting area, and guests are in the heart of a wilderness wonderland.

Children aged 8 years and older are welcome. Families with children aged between 8 and 15 will require their own private vehicle.   Children must be 12 years or older to participate in walking safaris. 

Each of Zarafa's guest tents has a professional Canon camera set, including a Canon 5D camera body and Canon 100-400mm and 28-135mm lenses. Photos will be downloaded to a DVD on guest's departure. Each tent comes with a pair of Swarovski binoculars for guest use as well plus a Nikon telescope.

Laundry is included in the nightly tariff - next day service, weather permitting.

A hair dryer is provided in each tent.

Neither internet nor mobile phone coverage are available.

In-room massages are available at an additional cost.

There is a basic 'jungle gym' for use by all guests.

The camp is run on solar power, but there are plug points in each tent (South African round pin type).

Duba Plains

In the furthermost remote reaches of the Okavango Delta lies Duba Plains, an unobtrusive camp built on a palm-dotted island surrounded by expansive seasonally flooded plains and shaded by tall ebony, sycamore fig and mangosteen trees in a private 33,000 hectare concession. Duba is particularly suited to those who want to be in a truly remote reserve.

Duba Plains prides itself on its extraordinary wildlife experiences and intimate up close exposure to the best of the best wildlife, from lions and leopards to elephants and buffalo and everything in between. The area is also known for interesting Kalahari species like aardwolf and pangolins. Activities include early morning and late afternoon/early evening game drives in open 4x4 vehicles and boat-based activities when water levels permit.

The camp's main area consists of a large raised dining room, comfortable lounge, interactive kitchen, wine cellar and library. The camp's centre point and the gathering place of all bush experiences is an extended deck under the giant ebony trees.

The accommodation is made up of 5 traditional style tents, designed to blend into the landscape and evoke the classic African safari style of the 1920s, as well as a separate 2 bedroom tented villa. All the rooms are raised on recycled railway sleeper decking and offer guests amazing views of the surrounding floodplain and the steady stream of wildlife parading past. Each tent has a lounge area and beautifully en-suite facilities including indoor and outdoor showes and a luxurious bath. Ceiling fans coupled with an environmentally friendly air-conditioning system over the bed maintain a comfortable climate for guests. There is also a private verandah complete with plunge pool and shaded sala.

Guests staying at the tented villa automatically enjoy the services of a private game drive vehicle with their own guide as well as a private butler and chef. The villa also has a private indoor lounge and dining area.

From Cape Town International Airport: As you leave the airport area you will come to a traffic light and a BP garage. Travel straight, remaining in the right hand lane. The road forks to the right before the bridge. This will feed you onto the N2 Highway, direction Cape Town. Follow signs to Cape Town City. You will pass Groote Schuur hospital on your right and keep to the right as the road forks.

Take the Strand Street off ramp and travel through the city on Strand Street, which will become High Level as it travels uphill away from the City. At the end of the road turn right into Avenue Fresnaye and second left into Kloof Road. Ellerman House is at number 180 Kloof Road on the right hand side, opposite number 107, before the amber flashing light.

Directions from N1: Follow signs to Cape Town City. You will pass Cape Town Convention Center on your left. Pass 3 traffic lights heading up Buitengracht. The first one is for the V&A Waterfront. Turn right at the Strand Street traffic light. This street will become High Level as it travels uphill away from the City.

At the end of the road turn right into Avenue Fresnaye and second left into Kloof Road. Ellerman House is at number 180 Kloof Road on the right hand side, opposite number 107, before the amber flashing light.
