Mivumo River Lodge

Selous Game Reserve

Days 1 - 3: Selous Game Reserve

Mivumo River Lodge Location Map

Vast, pristine and largely undiscovered, the spectacular Nyerere Game Reserve (formerly known as the Selous Game Reserve) covers over 50,000 square kilometres of rolling savannah, lakes, rivers and deltas in Southern Tanzania. Home to the largest concentrations of elephants in the world, this unique wildlife arena also boasts some of the most exclusive and pioneering boating safaris that Africa has to offer. Serena Mivumo River Lodge benefits from a wonderful location here, situated along the Rufiji River in the heart of the reserve, and just a 45 minute flight from Dar es Salaam International Airport.

Enjoy uninterrupted views of the wildlife as it congregates on the riverbank as you dine on fresh, locally sourced fare. Savour a drink at the open-sided lounge and bar, where comfortable sofas look out over the river. Or enjoy a meal in the bush, and be mesmerised by your magnificent natural surroundings. There is also an infinity pool and sundeck where guests can relax in between game activities.

The custom-built riverboats are built for comfort, safety and panoramic viewing. The Rufiji River game viewing experience promises abundant sightings of hippos (both in and out of the water), basking crocodiles and elephants, and even the rare chance of seeing a lion come down to the river to drink. Open sided game vehicles head into the reserve in search of African hunting dogs, lion, giraffe, antelope, elephant and buffalo.

Spacious and exceedingly romantic, the 12 chalets offer thatched roofs, wooden floors and an appealing blend of Edwardian elegance and contemporary comfort. The high valuted brushwood thatched roofs allow for a maximum amount of light and breeze in the room. Lavish bathrooms also feature a plunge pool and an exterior shower with wilderness views.

The Mivumo Villa has 3 double bedrooms, each with its own opulent bathroom. A private sun deck offers sun loungers, a plunge pool and a rain shower.
