Summary Of The Route and Costs
If you're looking to explore the seldom-visited corners of Southern Tanzania and stay at 5* luxury, and in addition minimise the number of flights, then staying on mainland Tanzania for the safari and the beach is the answer. From the unspoilt natural wilderness of the camps at Nyerere (formerly Selous) and Ruaha to the charming cottages and suites which overlook the Indian Ocean at Ras Kutani, these 3 camps naturally create a wonderful complementary 10 night itinerary to ensure you have a memorable African journey.
Begin with a 3 night quintessential safari experience, with days viewing the abundant game in the Nyerere/Selous Game Reserve by boat, vehicle and on foot, and evenings spent around the camp fire. Nyerere is 4 times larger than the Serengeti. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the riverine wilderness and diverse habitat creates the perfect environment for a wealth of animals. More than half of Tanzania’s elephant population and over 120,000 buffalos are here, and the 40,000 hippo and 4,000 lion are probably the largest populations on the continent; not to mention the fact that it is home to the planet’s largest population of rare wild dogs. This resplendence gives guests a rare opportunity to glimpse all of these animals in truly unspoilt landscape.
Your safari journey continues by revelling in the privacy of a remote corner of Ruaha National Park and discovering true unadulterated wilderness at Jongomero for another 3 nights. For guests seeking an authentic African adventure, a visit to Ruaha National Park is essential and no other Park in Tanzania epitomises the definition of 'Wild Africa' quite like Ruaha. There are upwards of 570 species of birds here - indeed, half of all Tanzania’s birds may be glimpsed, making it one of the continent's premier birding destinations. Ruaha also holds one of the greatest populations of elephant in any African Park. Buffalo gather in large herds, as well as giraffe, zebra, impala, eland, hippo, crocodile, lion and leopard. The rarer, lesser-seen creatures can also be found, including sable and roan antelope, dikdik, greater and lesser kudus, Grants gazelle and honey badgers. It is second only to Selous Game Reserve for the largest population of wild dog.
Finaly, end your trip in Zanzibar at Zuri Zanzibar. All of Zuri's bungalows, suites and villas are fitted-out with a mix of stylish contemporary furniture and local artisanal features and artwork, ensuring a wonderful tropical experience of indoor and outdoor living, with rooms flowing seamlessly out to generous terraces surrounded by lush tropical gardens. All ware within a short walk to the the azure waters of the Indian Ocean and the magnificent white sandy beach.
