A Week of Wildlife

Summary Of The Route and Costs

On this 7 night break, you can enjoy sundowners looking at Mount Kilimanjaro, explore the remoteness of the Samburu National Reserve in an open 4x4 safari vehicle and drive across the sun-baked plains of the Masai Mara where every game drive will give you an exciting wildlife encounter. It is a week filled with wildlife from start to end.

You start your safari adventure with a flight to Amboseli National Park. With a spectacular backdrop of the snowy peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Amboseli National Park is most famous for its elephant population, where herds of up to 100 can be found drinking at one of the swampy springs that filter up through the rock from an endless underground water supply directly from Kili's ice cap. The bull elephants in particular have incredibly long tusks. Also on game drives, you can hopefully encounter buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, impala and warthog. Not surprisingly, never far away from these herds of grazers are lion, leopard, cheetah, jackal and hyena. The birdlife is also extremely good with over 400 bird species recorded, including over 40 birds of prey.

Another light aircraft flight will take you up to Samburu, where you will stay in a luxury tented camp with views over a wildlife-rich riverbank. Herds of elephants and the big cats roam the plains with the Samburu Five - the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and the long necked gerenuk - unique species that are only found in this area. Enjoy bush breakfasts and dinners under the stars and visits to the local Samburu villages can also be arranged if you would like to supplement your wildlife adventure with a cultural interaction.

Finally, another flight takes you to down to the Masai Mara and to another tented camp, this time overlooking the Talek River. The camp offers some of the world’s finest game viewing with large local populations of plains game, elephants, rhinos, buffalos and all the big cats. In 2004, some 75% of the footage for the BBC’s famous Big Cat Diary was shot in the vicinity of the camp. Mara Intrepids is also only a short drive from the Mara River where over a million wildebeest and zebra make their perilous migration crossing every July and August.

Satao Elerai Camp is located in a quiet, unspoilt, unique setting on a 5,000 acre private conservation area 12 km south east of Amboseli National Park at the foot of Africa's largest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. One of the biggest advantages of Satao Elerai Camp is that being located on its own private conservation area guests staying here have the chance to view wildlife in private surroundings as well as on daily game drives into the Amboseli National Park itself. The camp also offers the chance to enjoy spectacular bush sundowners, night game drives and game walks on the conservancy, activities that are not available to the lodges located within the National Park.
