Kenya's Best Wildlife Areas

Summary Of The Route and Costs

This is a 12 night tour to Kenya’s best wildlife areas where you will stay in small safari camps for an exclusive and personal wilderness experience away from the crowds. The itinerary includes flights between areas to get you straight to the wildlife without spending hours travelling between the Parks over rough roads, and also includes day and night game drives in 4x4 safari vehicles and bush walks with Maasai guides for the ultimate African adventure.

The holiday begins with 2 nights at Nairobi Tented Camp in the Nairobi National Park - a superb alternative to staying in a hotel in the busy city centre. There isn't anywhere else in the world like it - a wilderness escape where you can savour the thrill of camping in the heart of thick bushland right on the doorstep of Nairobi. Wide open plains with the backdrop of city skyscrapers play host to a variety of wildlife including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffalos, giraffes and a diverse birdlife population with over 400 species recorded.

You then have a 3 night stay at Porini Amboseli Camp, which is situated in a private conservancy just north of the Amboseli National Park. Visitors can expect to see elephants, Thomson and Grant's gazelles, lions, cheetahs and leopards, bat eared fox, mongooses, porcupine, giraffe and yellow baboons, as well as abundant birdlife on their daily morning and afternoon game drives.

It's then off to Porini Rhino Camp for 2 nights. The conservancy is home to a variety of animals including the Big 5. It is the largest sanctuary in East Africa for the endangered black rhino and is also a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. Enjoy day and night shared game drives in a 4x4 safari vehicle, escorted walks, sundowners, and a visit to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

Your final 5 nights are split between 2 camps in the Masai Mara.  Your first camp is Porini Mara, in the private Ol Kinyei Conservancy. Morning, evening and night shared game drives, sundowners at scenic viewing points, escorted bush walks with Maasai warriors, and bush breakfasts and bush lunches are just part of the experience with the focus on being out in nature with your qualified Maasai guide and spotter.

You then move to Porini Lion Camp for your last 3 nights on this trip. The award-winning, eco-friendly Porini Lion Camp offers a unique opportunity to take guided walks with Maasai warriors and experience day and night game drives within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy - a pristine and exclusive private 33,000 acre wilderness set aside for wildlife conservation and low-impact tourism. You will also spend a full day game-driving across the plains in the Mara Reserve itself.

At the camps all meals, drinks (wine, gin and tonic, beer, sodas, mineral water), game drives, walks, night drives and sundowners are included in the price.

The Porini Safari Camps are small and exclusive and run on environmentally sound principles while working closely with the local communities. All camps are specially designed to have minimum impact with no permanent structures.

Summary Of The Itinerary

Holiday Title: Kenya's Best Wildlife Areas

Countries Visited: Kenya

Day 1

Arrive into Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport.

After you have had your passports stamped by the Immigrations Officer, proceed to the Baggage Hall to collect your luggage and then go past Customs and exit the building onto the street outside, where our representative will be waiting to meet you, holding a signboard displaying your name. You will then be introduced to your driver who will transfer you to the Nairobi Tented Camp.

Deep within a riverine forest minutes from Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Wilson Airport and Nairobi City is a true wilderness experience. Nairobi Tented Camp offers a safari experience filled with sightings of giraffe, buffalo, zebra, eland, impala and other antelopes, and an excellent chance of seeing rhino (both black rhino and white rhino are present in the park) as well as lion and if you very lucky, the elusive leopard.

Day 2

After breakfast in camp enjoy a morning game drive in Nairobi National Park or visit the renowned Elephant Orphange to view the young elephants and learn about these wonderful creatures. Return back to camp in time for lunch.

After lunch head out on a game drive in search of some of Africa's iconic animals, returning back to camp in time for dinner.

Day 3

After an early breakfast you will be transferred to Nairobi Wilson Airport in time to board your flight to Amboseli.

Safarilink Flight Number 11: Fly from Wilson Airport (WIL) departing at 07:30 to Amboseli Airstrip, arriving at 09:00

You will be met at the airstrip and transferred to Porini Amboseli Camp. 10 miles north of Amboseli National Park is the Porini Amboseli Camp in the Selenkay Conservancy. Selenkay shares the same eco-system as Amboseli and this pioneering conservancy is an important wildlife dispersal area for wildlife moving out of the Park. The conservancy has no more than one tent per 700 acres and about one vehicle per 1,400 acres. This exclusive conservancy ensures the best possible game viewing in proper off-road safari vehicles away from other tourist vehicles and minibuses.

Amboseli National Park

3 nights at Porini Amboseli Camp

After lunch enjoy a game drive into the conservancy, stopping for a sundowner at a scenic spot overlooking Kilimanjaro, then continue with a night game drive to look for nocturnal animals such as aardvark, serval cats, caracals, bat-eared foxes, African wild cats and other species. Return to camp in time for dinner.

Day 4

After an early breakfast spend the morning on a game drive in the Selenkay Conservancy and taking an escorted walk with Maasai guides, returning back to camp in time for lunch.

In the afternoon you will visit a nearby Masai Village where you will get to know more about the way of life of the Masai people before having a night game drive with a spotlight on the way back to camp. Maybe you might be lucky and see a pride of lion starting to hunt.

Day 5

Today you will drive through the bush on a private track into the Amboseli National Park for a full morning of game viewing. With a spectacular backdrop of the snowy peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Amboseli National Park is most famous for its elephant population, where herds of up to 100 can be found drinking at one of the swampy springs that filter up through the rock from an endless underground water supply directly from Kili's ice cap. Some of the bull elephants found here also have incredibly long and impressive tusks. Also on game drives, you can hopefully encounter buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, impala and warthog. Not surprisingly, never far away from these herds of grazers are lion, leopard, cheetah, jackal and hyena. The birdlife is also extremely good with over 400 bird species recorded, including over 40 birds of prey. Following a picnic lunch in the Park, you will return to camp later in the afternoon.

This evening you will head out on a game drive in Selenkay Conservancy, stopping for a sundowner at a scenic viewpoint followed by a night game drive. You will return to camp in time for dinner.

Day 6

After an early breakfast you will be driven through the Conservancy to the airstrip, where you will board your flight back to Wilson Airport and connect with your onward flight to Nanyuki.

Safarilink Flight Number 12: Fly from Amboseli Airstrip departing at 09:05 to Wilson Airport (WIL), arriving at 09:50

You will be met and assisted with the connection onto your next flight.

Safarilink Flight Number 23: Fly from Wilson Airport (WIL) departing at 10:20 to Nanyuki Airstrip, arriving at 11:00

You will be met at the airstrip and transferred to Porini Rhino Camp. Porini Rhino Camp is a small tented camp located within the 90,000 acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the foothills of Mount Kenya. The camp staff comes from different local communities and the camp itself adheres to strict eco-friendly and responsible eco tourism principles and has a prestigious Gold Eco-rating.

Enjoy lunch and afternoon tea in camp and then head off on a game drive with your driver-guide in the camp's 4x4 safari vehicle. Return to Porini Rhino Camp in time for dinner.

Day 7

Today enjoy a full day of game viewing and walking activities in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, returning back to camp later this afternoon.

Day 8

After an early breakfast you will be transferred back to the airstrip in time to board your next flight to the Mara.

Safarilink Flight Number 31: Fly from Nanyuki Airstrip departing at 09:45 to Masai Mara Airstrip, arriving at 11:00

You will be met at the airstrip and transferred to Porini Mara Camp, arriving for lunch. Ol Kinyei Conservancy was the first community conservancy of its kind set up in 2005 and every tent pays to secure 700 acres with the vehicles being limited to no more than one vehicle to 1,400 acres. Guests staying at the Porini Mara Camp have exclusive access to this conservancy. There is a large resident lion pride and several leopards also have their territories within the Ol Kinyei conservancy and are often sighted by guests on evening or early morning drives. Cheetahs are frequently seen and it is not rare to come across large numbers of giraffe as well as Cape buffalo and elephants.

In the afternoon you will have a game drive with a sundowner at a scenic spot followed by a night game drive with spotlights to search for nocturnal animals, including the elusive leopards which are resident in Ol Kinyei Conservancy, before heading back to camp for dinner.

Day 9

Awake to the natural sounds of the Mara's birdlife. Leave camp soon after dawn to explore the Ol Kinyei Conservancy on the lookout for elephants, buffalo, giraffe, plains game and the big cats. Later return to the camp for lunch. In the afternoon, head out on another game drive followed by a sundowner stop and a night game drive on the way back to camp.

Day 10

Enjoy a morning walk in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy before returning to the camp for breakfast. You will leave camp later this morning and drive through the Ol Kinyei and Naboisho Conservancies, enjoying some extra game viewing en-route. You will enter the Olare Motorogi Conservancy and arrive at Porini Lion Camp in time for lunch.

The award-winning Porini Lion Camp has just 10 spacious tented rooms and is located in a stunning setting on the banks of the seasonal Ntiakatiak River within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. This large area borders the Masai Mara National Reserve and is home to an abundance of animals including the Mara's renowned big cats. There is unsurpassed game-viewing within the conservancy due to its unspoiled natural state and guests will have a genuine "away from it all" experience here deep in the African bush.

After lunch enjoy an afternoon game drive in the exclusive Olare Motorogi Conservancy, away from the minibuses and tourist vehicles seen in the reserve and with an excellent chance of sighting lions, cheetahs and leopards all of which are found in the conservancy. Return back to camp in time for dinner.

Day 11

Today you will leave camp with a picnic lunch and head to the Masai Mara for a full day of game viewing in the Reserve. The Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the most popular and most visited African game reserves. A true 'Out of Africa' safari destination, the reserve is mostly made up of open plains baked golden by the African sun. Big cats, elephants, giraffe, wild dog, buffalo, rhino, hyena, wildebeest, gazelles and impala are just a few of the many animal species that may be spotted on your daily game drives (no night drives are allowed in the actual reserve itself) and hundreds of bird species have also been recorded. The sheer density of game and birdlife makes this an exciting and rewarding safari destination for first-time safari goers or for returning safari enthusiasts.

Day 12

Today you will have another opportuning to enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in the exclusive Olare Motorogi Conservancy returning back to camp in time for dinner.

Day 13
