Sunsets over the Desert and Delta

Summary Of The Route and Costs

This 8 day itinerary combines the stark beauty and remoteness of the desert contrasted with the Delta waterways. Enjoy nature walks with Bushmen, visit giant baobab trees clustered together on the untamed terrain, and unforgettable star gazing over 4 memorable desert days, before heading into the heart of the Okavango Delta for a true wilderness experience. Day and night game drives, walks and mokoro trips will round off your Botswana adventure and leave you with endless holiday memories.

Your first stop is the famous Tau Pan, recognised for its stark beauty and remoteness. Activities offered here include game drives, day trips to the well-known Deception Valley, Sunday, Piper and Passarge Pans, star gazing, bush brunches on Tau Pan, and nature walks with Bushman trackers. Wildlife here includes oryx, the desert-adapted springbok, jackals, the rare brown hyena, red-crested Korhaan and herds of wildebeest - and last but not least, the pride of iconic black-maned Kalahari lions who frequent the camp!

Then its off to Nxai Pan. Nxai Pan is one of Botswana’s best-kept secrets for a desert safari. The action takes place around Nxai Pan itself and the Park’s 2 waterholes, which keep wildlife in the area year-round. Much of Nxai Pan can be explored in a day, however the real reason to visit is to take a slower pace and watch the waterholes as the wildlife arrives to drink. If you’re lucky, your patience might pay off as a hungry cheetah charges a thirsty springbok, sending a shower of dust over the waterhole. For landscape photographers, the famous Baines’ Baobabs are a half day trip from Nxai Pan itself. The baobabs sit on the edge of Kudiakum Pan, whose salt-encrusted surface provides a small hint of the vast saltpans further south in the Makgadikgadi.

Then spend 4 nights in the Okavango Delta, splitting your time between 2 camps (2 nights at each). Botswana’s main safari attraction is the world-famous Okavango Delta - the world’s largest inland wetland area, comprising of nearly 16,000 square kilometres of lagoons, island and channels. This great quantity of water attracts a huge number of wildlife, including elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffes, hippos, kudus, predators such as lion, hyena and leopard, and endless birdlife.
