Big 5 Kruger Safari, Cape Town and Mauritius

Suggested Holiday Itinerary

Big 5 Kruger Safari, Cape Town and Mauritius

Summary Of The Route and Costs

Beginning with a Big 5 safari in Kruger, spending time exploring Cape Town, and ending with 5 nights on a beach in Mauritius at a popular family-friendly hotel, this family holiday will leave you wishing you didn't have to come home at all.

The holiday begins with 3 nights on safari at Nkorho Lodge, in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Head out on morning and afternoon game drives with an experienced ranger and tracker team, and be wowed by the sheer number of animals you will encounter, including the Big 5 of the African bush - lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo.  You may even be lucky and see wild dog.

You then fly to Cape Town for a few nights. Take time to explore and absorb the Waterfront area, and take a tourist bus ride around the city, getting off at the Table Mountain cablecar for an unforgettable ride to the top of this iconic landmark. For your last few days, we would suggest having a hire car, which will enable you to explore a bit further afield - maybe down to the Cape Peninsula, stopping on the way there or back at the penguin nesting colony at Boulders Beach.

You then fly to Mauritius for the last 5 nights of your holiday. The Cannonier Beachcomber Hotel is ideally set up for families. The Two Bedroom Apartments here have a double and a twin room, both with en-suite bathrooms, and answer the need for both privacy at times and family moments at others. It is an ideal set up for families looking for both comfort and space.

The extensive gardens slope gently down to the beach, and are dotted with colonial relics. The two free-flow swimming pools are ideal for splashing around in or just relaxing by, and the wide selection of indoor and outdoor activities offers both parents and teenagers an active holiday as well as quality time together.

Summary Of The Itinerary

Holiday Title: Big 5 Kruger Safari, Cape Town and Mauritius

Countries Visited: South Africa and Mauritius

Day 1

Arrive into Hoedspruit Airport. You will be met in the airport building by your driver and once you have collected your luggage you will then be transferred to the Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

Well known as one of Africa's finest safari destinations, the exclusive Sabi Sand Game Reserve shares a common 50 km unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park to the east. With no boundary fences between the Sabi Sand and the Kruger National Park, a great diversity of wildlife is found here, including the Big Five, but it is the big cat game viewing - in particular phenomenal close up leopard sightings - which set this reserve aside from any other. Game drives traverse the area every morning and afternoon, and strict vehicle limits at sightings ensure the exclusivity of your game viewing experience. Off-road driving enables the best possible view of any exceptional sighting and rangers are constantly in touch with each other to keep track of animal movements.

Day 4

After you return from your morning game drive, you will have time to enjoy breakfast before you are collected and transferred to the airport.

Nestled at the foot of the majestic Table Mountain and bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Town is consistently voted among the top cities in the world to visit. It is no surprise therefore that this wonderful city is one of the highlights of a holiday to South Africa.

Day 7

Your hire car will be delivered at 09:00 this morning. With a hire car, you can explore slightly further afield - maybe taking a day trip down to the Cape Peninsula, stopping en-route there or back at Boulders Beach, which is home to one of only 2 mainland nesting colonies of African penguins in South Africa. Or head into the Winelands and stop and enjoy lunch at one of the many fine restaurants here which offer superb home-cooked food in stunning settings. Or even drive 2 hours to Hermanus, which is amongst the world's leading destinations for both land-based and boat-based whale watching. From June to November each year, whales can be seen as close as 20m from the shore and can come right up to the side of the whale watching boats.
