Fly around Uganda and trek chimpanzees in Kibale and gorillas in Bwindi on this memorable 4 night trip.
Upon arrival into Uganda's Entebbe Airport, you will be met and transferred to a nearby guest house for an overnight stay, enabling you to relax and catch up on any lost sleep from your international flight before your memorable primate trekking holiday begins in the morning.
Early the next morning you will be transferred back to the airport for your morning flight to the Kibale National Park. Here, you will embark on a trek into the forest in search of the one of the chimpanzee troups that swing boisterously through the tree tops. You will most likely hear them before you see them! Having spent an hour in their company, watching as they go about their chimp daily life, you will head to Papaya Lake Lodge where you will stay overnight. Papaya Lake Lodge has glorious views over the lakes, so it is a fitting way to end your first marvellous full day in Uganda.
The next morning, another early flight will take you to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - home to the endangered mountain gorillas. This afternoon, you can choose to relax at the lodge (and if you are lucky, you may see a gorilla as they occasionally pop by the lodge for a surprise visit!) or go out with a guide and enjoy a peaceful forest nature walk or visit the local village.
Fall asleep to the sounds of the forest and awaken to chattering birds and monkeys as day breaks. Enjoy morning tea/coffee on your private verandah with sweeping views over the forest - what better way to start the day - before heading off to your briefing for your gorilla trek. You will be assigned a gorilla family and you head into the forest with a guide and porters who are available to assist you over any tricky bits of the path. Once you find your gorilla family, you have an hour with them before returning to the lodge to relax for the rest of the day.
You then fly back to Entebbe the following day and check in for your international flight home.
Arrive into Entebbe Airport. Go through Immigration and Customs, then make your way into the Arrivals Hall where your driver will meet you. You will then be transferred to your guest house for an overnight stay.
After breakfast you will be transferred back to the airport where you will check in for your flight to Kasese Airstrip.
AeroLink Seat in Plane Rate (Light Aircraft): Fly from Entebbe Intl (EBB) departing at 07:00 to Kasese Airstrip, arriving at 10:05
You will be met and driven to the Kibale National Park. This afternoon you will track the most famous inhabitants of Kibale Forest National Park - the chimpanzees. The forest has one of the highest diversity of primates in Africa totalling 13 species including the black and white Colobus monkeys, the blue monkey and the grey-cheeked Mangabey monkey. After finding the chimps and staying with them for an hour, you will be taken to Papaya Lake Lodge for an overnight stay.
After breakfast you will be transferred back to the airstrip where you will board your flight down to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
AeroLink Seat in Plane Rate (Light Aircraft): Fly from Kasese Airport departing at 08:15 to Kihihi Airstrip, arriving at 08:50
You will be met at the airstrip and transferred to your lodge. Nestled at the gateway to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Buhoma Lodge is one of only two lodges set within the National Park and is the perfect lodge to stay at before your bucketlist gorilla trekking adventure. This afternoon, why not go on a village walk (additional cost) and meet a traditional healer and visit the local primary school, or head off on a guided Bwindi forest nature walk (additional cost) which offers great bird watching opportunities.
This morning you will get up early and head off to trek a gorilla family. Trekking the mountain gorillas is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. The trek will take between 2 and 6 hours, but is well worth the effort. You will be led by an experienced ranger who will tell you interesting facts about the plants and the forest wildlife as well as the lifestyle of the gorillas. The terrain is often steep and through areas where there are no marked paths. It can be VERY strenuous - it may be just a couple of hours but it can also be for a full day of up to 8 hours or more of hiking in hot, high altitude conditions - please be prepared for this by being as fit as possible!
You will be transferred to Kihihi Airstrip where you will board your light aircraft flight back to Entebbe, enjoying the beautiful aerial view of south-western Uganda, the hills and thick vegetation as well as the farming practiced by the locals.
AeroLink Seat in Plane Rate (Light Aircraft): Fly from Kihihi Airstrip to Entebbe Intl (EBB) - arrival and departure times to be confirmed
Check in for your international flight home. Depending on the time of the international flight, there may be an opportunity to do an afternoon activity (additional cost), such as visit the Mbamba Swamps in search of the elusive shoebill, or visit the chimpanzee sanctuary on Ngamba Island.
