Angama Mara

Masai Mara

Angama Mara Location Map

Angama Mara is located high above the floor of the Great Rift Valley overlooking the Masai Mara, one of the most renowned game reserves on the continent. The reserve is a mere 10 minute drive from the lodge and home to some of Africa’s greatest mammals including prides of lion, solitary leopards, the shy black rhino and abundant herds of elephant and buffalo, not to mention plenty of plains game.

Days at Angama Mara can be as action packed or as gentle as you choose them to be. Head out at sunrise on a game drive with a picnic breakfast and be back in time for lunch, or take a picnic with you and spend a full day exploring the Mara. Guests can also embark on walking safaris as long or as short as one desires. With access to over 2,000 hectares of wilderness along the escarpment, breathtaking views, game viewing and opportunities to learn more about Masai traditions are offered. You may even be lucky enough to spot the rare oribi antelope on the way.

If you are looking for a truly unique experience, then go on a hot air balloon safari. Wake up before dawn and fly over the Mara at first light, viewing Africa’s animals as you silently float above them. This is an experience for which the Mara is famous.

Or you can simply relax and enjoy the views over the open plains below. Sunrise to sunset, the views here are simply stunning.

Angama Mara consists of 2 intimate camps of just 15 tented suites each. Each of the tented suites are stand alone with the exception of 4 sets of interconnected tents that are ideal for families.

The pavilion is the only common shared area and sits in the heart of the lodge between the 2 camps and is easily reached by a footpath. Here, guests will find an infinity pool with both shaded and un-shaded sun loungers, a fitness room with a technogym, safari shop, artefact gallery and a studio where you will find Masai ladies crafting beaded items.
