Madikwe Game Reserve - North West Province
Malaria-Free Safaris in the Madikwe Game Reserve
The 76,000 hectare Madikwe Game Reserve is situated in the far north of North West Province, adjacent to the Botswana border and just a 4 hour drive from Johannesburg.
The Reserve is home to 66 large mammal species including the Big 5 and approximately 300 resident and migrant bird species.
It is one of South Africa's largest game reserves and a popular safari choice for overseas visitors as it is in a malaria-free area and a number of the lodges also welcome children.
Guests are taken on conducted day and night game drives or bush walks. Excellent accommodation is available at various private lodges in the reserve. There are no day visitor facilities - only residents at a lodges may enter the reserve.

Each of the 8 glass fronted luxury suites all enjoy uninterrupted views over the reserve from a private deck. The suites all have full en-suite facilities including outside showers.

Madikwe River Lodge offers comfortable accommodation in 16 split-level thatched chalets. Each chalet is individually decorated to create a rich African feel, and offer an en-suite bathroom and shower, ceiling fans, and a private wooden viewing deck overlooking the river.
The Bush House (access via Wonderboom Gate)

The Bush Home accommodates just 10 people in double rooms, which are simply decorated but equipped with air-conditioning, mosquito nets and percale linen. The veranda and garden overlook one of the best waterholes in the reserve and often the sightings are as exciting as they are on a game drive.

There are 7 luxury chalets plus 1 luxury family suite in total, each with private deck and plunge pool, en-suite bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, air-conditioning and mini bar. The 8 rooms are all built using a unique combination of thatched roofs, stone and canvas walls, which creates a 'tented' feel and captures all the elements of a truly luxurious African bush safari. Each room has an open plan bathroom with a hand-made rock bath with an outdoor shower, and fans to keep a gentle breeze flowing.

Jaci's Tree Lodge has 8 luxurious 'Tree Houses', each encompassing a giant tamboti or leadwood tree. Each 'Tree House' is constructed on stilts, up to 6 meters above the ground.

The lodge has 4 luxury suites and a further 2 family cottages, each consisting of 2 bedrooms with an adjoining lounge. Little Tuningi is part of the main lodge but can be booked as 'stand alone' accommodation.

There are 17 chalets, split between the North and East camps. Each chalet features a sitting area, a bedroom with circular fireplace, a spacious dressing area with personal bar, and an en-suite bathroom.
