Lobengula Lodge is a truly traditional African experience. Tucked deep in the valley bushveld of the 25,000 malaria-free Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape, this thatched ethnically decorated lodge offers guests a tranquil, luxurious and exclusive getaway.

Shamwari is about conserving a vanishing way of life. Steeped in Settler history, and dating back to the time when a multitude of game roamed wild and free, the reserve boasts 5 eco-systems, thus enabling the support of many forms of plant, animal and bird life, including the Big 5 as well as wild dog, cheetah, hyena, giraffe, hippo, zebra and numerous antelope species.

Game viewing is carried out morning and evening on game drives, when you are driven in your open vehicle over the rolling hills and valleys in search of the wildlife.

In-between game drive guests can relax, swim or enjoy a drink at the pool bar.

The magnificent wooden deck overlooking the dense African bush is beautifully appointed for meals or mystical African storytelling in front of the fireplace.

All 5 Junior suites at Lobengula Lodge are en-suite, with air-conditioning and under-floor heating, whilst the Chief suite boasts a large private lounge with fireplace and pool.

There is also a small gym and steam bath, and the spa offers a wide range of indulgent treatments.

Lavish meals are served either on the main deck or in the outside boma. A selection of fine South African wines from the cellar and well-trained staff ensure a high quality of service and satisfaction.

"The Shamwari section was simply outstanding, the accommodation, attentiveness, expertise of the rangers (our was called Mushy) and whole experience was far in excess of our expectations.

The itinerary, routes and breadth of game available also made the stay one of our best ever anywhere. The tiny details we actually the most impressive even though they probably cost the least and above all the friendliness of the staff was very much appreciated.
