Leeuwenbosch
The Amakhala Game Reserve began in 1999 as a joint conservation venture and today has 5 independently owned lodges. All are owner managed by the descendants of the original families who arrived here with the British settlers of 1820. Steeped in history and beauty, this 6,000 hectare game reserve is an ideal environment for an unforgettable Big 5 safari in a varied landscape, including breathtaking views of the Bushmans River.
Built in 1908 and set in its own lovely garden on the edge of the reserve, Leeuwenbosch Country House is a large and comfortable colonial homestead, which offers true country living in every sense.
Go on game drives in an open Land Rover in search of wildlife including rhino, lion, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, black wildebeest, zebra, and over 16 antelope species, or take a night drive with cheese and wine sundowners before searching for elusive nocturnal animals; relax on a slow river cruise down the Bushmans River; or take a guided walk with one of the qualified rangers.
The 4 spacious, and comfortable rooms and one suite are all en-suite, and generous meals are taken in the original family dining room.
At the end of an exciting day of game viewing on the reserve, guests can enjoy a relaxed and cheerful evening in the old 1832 cellar-bar or enjoy a quiet game of billiards on the full size antique table.
All meals, selected drinks and 2 activities per day (game drives, river cruises, canoeing, guided walks or night drives) are included.
The rate excludes premium drinks, telephone, laundry, shop purchases, transfers and any gratuities.
Children of any age are welcome. Rates available on request. Children under 6 years are not allowed on game drives.
