Self-Drive from Johannesburg by Road
It is at least a 5 hour drive. If you would like a quote for a hire car, please do let us know and we will be happy to arrange this for you. Alternatively you can book directly with Avis in South Africa.Transfer from Johannesburg by Road
We can arrange a road transfer for you if you didn't want to drive yourself - quotes available on request.Daily Shuttle Service
You can fly daily from Johannesburg International Airport (or the O.R. Tambo as it is now known as) directly to the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. The service is run by Federal Air, and you are met at the airport by one of their professional Guest Relations team, and transferred to FedAir's private first class lounge where you can relax before boarding your flight to the Park. The flights leave at 9.30 am, 11.30 am, and 1.30 pm, so you can take the one which best fits in with your plans. The flight takes about 90 minutes, and costs approximately R2,092 per adult one way. Children aged between 2 years and up to and including 12 years are charged at R1,564 per child one way. From 1st January 2009, the rates increase to R2,227 per adult one way and R1,685.50 per child one way. Please note that these rates are inclusive of a R285 fuel surcharge and a R47 ACSA Passenger Service Charge per person / child, and are subject to change and landing fees where applicable.
Upon landing in the reserve, you are met and transferred to the lodge by Land Rover.
There is, however, a baggage restriction of 20 kg per person, and you have to have a 'soft' bag (for easy storage in the plane), but you can leave any excess baggage safely at FedAir's office at Johannesburg Airport, which you can then pick up when you return.
Scheduled Flight from Johannesburg
There are daily flights run by South African Airlines from the Johannesburg International Airport to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (airport code MQP), where we can arrange for you to be met and transferred to the lodge by road or air.The flight from Johannesburg takes about an hour, and fares start from around R900 one way. The journey time then from the airport to the lodge is about a 2 hour drive by road or 20 - 30 minutes by air. There is, however, a baggage restriction of 15 kg per person for the air transfer, and you have to have a 'soft' bag again for easy storage in the plane.
Alternatively, you can hire a car from the Kruger Mpumalanga Airport and drive yourself to the lodge - the advantage of this is that you then have a car to explore the beautiful Lowveld area around the Park after your safari if you have time in your holiday plans.
From Cape Town
There are one or 2 scheduled flights a day that go direct from Cape Town to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, and these take just over 2 hours - prices start from approximately R1,700 per person one way.
