The coastline of Mozambique offers visitors the opportunity to experience and enjoy some of the finest diving in the world. An underwater world awaits you - from unexplored coral reefs, to shipwrecks, to close encounters with a dazzling array of marine species.
Moray eels and stingrays, barracuda, kingfish and other gamefish are your companions whilst diving in tropical waters that seldom drop below 26 degrees Centigrade.
For those who prefer to stay on land or laze on a boat, dolphins are often seen frolicking in the waves, and humpback whales are frequently sighted between August and October.
Leatherback, loggerhead and green turtles are also often seen in the water, and come ashore to lay their eggs on the sandy island beaches.
You may also be lucky enough to see a rare dugong - part of the largest viable breeding population in the western Indian Ocean.
In the south, within the protected Bazaruto Marine National Park, there is a host of exciting dives to be experienced here in the crystal-clear waters, at sites such as Two-Mile and Five-Mile Reef reef, where reef fish such as snapper and surgeon, as well as manta rays and reef sharks can be seen.
The tropical waters of the Quirimbas Archipelago in the north are one of the country's best-kept secrets, with a pristine marine ecosystem. There are 12 known dive sites, including exciting wall dives for advanced divers wanting a challenge.
Most beach resorts have PADI accredited Dive Centres, and offer beginner courses to more advanced reef and wreck diving.
