Suggested Holiday Itinerary

Cape Town and Shamwari Safari

Summary Of The Route and Costs

This is a classic Cape experience, starting at a 5* hotel situated in the heart of the vibrant and buzzy Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town and ending at a secluded and luxurious tented safari lodge in the award-winning Shamwari Game Reserve in the malaria-free Eastern Cape.

The elegant Victoria & Alfred Hotel is known for its friendly and efficient service yet never being too intrusive. Your Mountain-Facing Room offers inspiring views over the ever-awake Alfred Basin and majestic Table Mountain. Walk in the utmost safety to some of the finest retail outlets from designer stores to restaurants, craft markets, cinemas, boat cruises to Robben Island and entertainment in the amphitheatre.

Your hire car will be delivered on Day 3, enabling you to explore the wonderful Cape a bit further afield.

You then fly across to Port Elizabeth for your safari - the flight takes just over an hour. Leaving Cape Town late morning, you will be ensconced in your luxurious safari tented suite by early afternoon, all unpacked and ready to depart on your first afternoon game drive across the hills and plains of the Shamwari Game Reserve.

Shamwari is famed for its animal conservation efforts and home to the all-important Big 5. Every dawn and dusk, you'll set off into the bushland on the lookout for wildlife. Bayethe Lodge is a tented safari paradise that allows you to immerse yourself in complete luxury and tranquility, surrounded by rich vegetation that provides privacy and a feeling of seclusion with spectacular views of the African bush. Inbetween game drives, relax on your private deck and take a dip in your private plunge pool. In the cooler winter months, cosy up around the indoor fireplace.

History and modern luxury merge to create ageless beauty at the Victoria & Alfred Hotel, which was built in 1904 as the North Quay Warehouse. This iconic establishment was named after Queen Victoria and her son, Prince Alfred who played an intrinsic role in the establishment of the Breakwater Basin – now the V&A Waterfront. The hotel is located in the very heart of this internationally acclaimed destination and is a sophisticated retreat amid the buzz. It offers some of the most enviable views of Cape Town Harbour, Table Mountain and the slick city that stretches out at the foot of this Natural Wonder.

The keys to your hire car will then be handed over to you. With a hire car, you can explore slightly further afield - maybe taking a day trip down to the Cape Peninsula, stopping en-route there or back at Boulders Beach, which is home to one of only 2 mainland nesting colonies of African penguins in South Africa. Or head into the Winelands and stop and enjoy lunch at one of the many fine restaurants here which offer superb home-cooked food in stunning settings.
