Desert Rhino Camp

Palmwag Reserve, Damaraland

Desert Rhino Camp

Palmwag Rhino Camp is a luxury tented camp run in conjunction with the 'Save the Rhino Trust', in the private Palmwag area of the rugged northern Damaraland.

The camp offers a brilliant insight into the ecology and conservation of this incredible area and at the same time contributes directly to the Trust and ultimately the sustainability of this vulnerable area and its wildlife.

The camp is in the heart of black rhino breeding territory, and the highlight of a stay here is tracking this rare creature on foot.

Desert Rhino Camp

Guests have the rare pleasure of exploring this wild and remote area of the country in search of the black rhino, in the company of dedicated conservationists and local trackers.

The area traversed while tracking the rhino is over 450,000 hectares.

Other wildlife in the area includes mountain zebra, giraffe, gemsbok, springbok, ostrich, desert elephants, lion, cheetah, leopard, and both spotted and brown hyena.

The camp's accommodation consists of 8 large 'Meru-style' walk-in tents with en-suite facilities, including bucket showers and solar-powered hot water.

The main area of the camp has a comfortable lounge and bar area, and a dining area with a 'family' style table around which all meals are served.

Another highlight is the game drive through the private wilderness at the beginning and end of your stay.
