Summary Of The Route and Costs

This is one for the wildlife enthusiast on a budget - a week long itinerary that takes in the AfriCat centre at Okonjima and the amazing Etosha National Park.

The trip starts with a couple of nights at Okonjima, where you can track their population of cheetah and leopards and see behind the scenes at this famous wildlife chartity. 

From here you then travel to Namutoni on the eastern side of the Etosha National Park, and this will be your base for 2 nights whilst you explore this side of the Park.  When you leave Namutoni, you will have a full day driving through the Park to Okaukuejo.  Famous for its active waterhole which attracts a whole host of animals, and which is also floodlit at night, you will spend 3 nights here, giving you ample time to enjoy more of the wildlife in this magnificent Park.

Day 1

Make your way into the Arrivals Hall and find the Bidvest Car Rental office. Complete the necessary paperwork - you will need to present your driving licence, passport and credit card. The keys to your hire car will then be handed over to you.

8 Day Car Rental: Car Hire Group C - Toyoto Corolla or Similar (Super Cover)

Drive to Okonjima Nature Reserve (approx 220 km / 3 h 0 mins). Situated halfway between Windhoek and the Etosha National Park, a highlight of staying at the 55,000 acre Okonjima Nature Reserve are the cheetah and leopard safaris.

Day 3

Allow about 4 hours to drive to the Von Lindequist Entrance Gate of the Etosha National Park. Enter the Park and drive to your first rest camp. The Etosha National Park rings the huge white Etosha Salt Pan that covers 20% of the entire Park. This Pan is the stomping ground to a breathtaking amount of animal life, with vast herds of zebra, giraffe and elephant roaming across its cracked white surface and surrounding savannah.

Day 5

Take the entire day to drive through the Park to your next rest camp. Etosha is home to 114 different species of mammal, including 4 of the famous Big Five - lion, leopard, elephant and rhino (both black and white). It also boasts over 400 species of bird and 110 species of reptile. You'll also find 3 rare antelope species amongst its hills and valleys - the lovely black-faced impala, the graceful roan antelope and the dinky Damara dik-dik, Southern Africa's tiniest antelope, which stands only 40cm tall to the shoulder as a fully grown adult.


Day 8
Allow about 5 hours to drive back to Windhoek Airport, where you will return your hire car and check in for your flight home. Passengers are requested to check in 2.5 hours prior to the international flight departure.
