Gamewatchers Mobile Camp - Amboseli

Amboseli National Park

Days 1 - 3: Amboseli National Park

Gamewatchers Mobile Camp - Amboseli Location Map

For those for whom the wildlife safari experience is more important than the accommodation, and who are prepared to sleep in small tents in sleeping bags on a mattress on the floor with an element of roughing it, this gives an opportunity for an exceptional and exclusive wildlife experience with high quality guiding but at a fraction of the price.

The mobile camp is based in the exclusive 15,000 acre Selenkay Conservancy, which is 10 miles north of the Amboseli National Park.

Activities include game drives in specially designed open-sided 4x4 Land Rovers (seating just 6 people per vehicle), both on the Conservancy and in the Amboseli National Park. Bush walks and night drives can also be enjoyed on the Conservancy. The stunning Mount Kilimanjaro can be viewed on a clear day, making a beautiful backdrop to any photographs.

Guests have the opportunity to see a wide variety of wildlife, including elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, striped hyena, jackal, African wild cat, porcupine, Thompson's and Grant's gazelles, gerenuk, impala, oryx, eland, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, warthog, and vervet monkeys. Birdlife is prolific, especially birds of prey.

The tents are small canvas dome tents, designed for 2 persons. Guests need to bring their own sleeping bag and a towel, and you sleep on comfortable mattresses on the tent floor. Each tent has its own private bathroom in a cubicle located immediately behind the tent with flush toilet, wash basin and safari shower.  There are just 9 tents in total, making this a very intimate safari experience for the adventurous safari goer.

The camp is hosted by your safari guide, who is a professionally qualified guide with KPSGA certification. There are also service staff who do all the work associated with camping, such as washing up, heating water for showers, cooking and serving the food, and an experienced safari cook prepares the daily meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the dining tent and picnic lunches are provided for full day safaris into the Amboseli National Park.

Mineral water is provided daily at the camp and on safari drives and walks. Drinks other than mineral water are not included in the price but beer, wine and sodas are available at reasonable prices and guests may bring their own drinks if they wish.

Gamewatchers Mobile Camp - Masai Mara

Masai Mara

Days 4 - 6: Masai Mara

Gamewatchers Mobile Camp - Masai Mara Location Map

The Gamewatchers Mobile Camp in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy has been designed to offer the same high quality wildlife safari experience provided by the top-end safari camps, with 4x4 game viewing escorted by top class guides and in exclusive wildlife conservancies away from the tourist minibuses - but at a hugely reduced price.

Guests stay in small basic mobile camps, so it is 'real camping' - and for those who want some adventure this is an ideal safari experience.

Ol Kinyei is a beautiful wilderness area located less than 18 km from the Masai Mara Reserve boundary, and is home to open savannah plains, riverine forests, springs, streams and rivers, rolling hills and on top of this, it offers spectacular views across the Mara.

The Conservancy belongs to the Masai community who set aside the area as a sanctuary for wildlife. The conservancy is home to a wide variety of the wildlife species for which the Mara is famous, including a large resident pride of lions. Activities include day and night game drives in the Conservancy and in the Masai Mara Reserve, and are conducted in open-sided 4x4 Land Rover safari vehicles seating just 6 people. Your driver-guide is a wildlife expert and certified by the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association. Bush walks in the Conservancy are also offered.

The tents are Coleman Sundome tents, designed for 2 people. Guests sleep in sleeping bags (you are required to bring your own) on a comfortable mattress on the floor, so there is a certain element of roughing it. However, each tent has its own private bathroom in a cubicle located behind the tent with flush toilet, wash basin and safari shower.

At each safari camp site there are service staff who do all the work associated with camping, like washing up, heating water for showers, cleaning thetents and bathrooms, doing the cooking and serving the food. An experienced safari cook is at the camp to prepare the daily meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the dining tent and picnic lunches are provided for full day safaris into the Mara Reserve.
