Top 10 Greater Kruger Safari Lodges For Families

Paul Campbell - January 29, 2008

Following on from last weeks listing of top lodges for families in malaria free areas, today we are having a look at our most popular lodges for families in the Greater Kruger area.

The first point to bear in mind when looking at family lodges in the Kruger area is that the average age of children staying at lodges in this area tends to be higher than for lodges in malaria free areas.  There are two reasons for this: firstly, many parents are reluctant to take younger children to a low risk malaria area,  and secondly many of the lodges will have a minimum age of  8 or so and do not tend to run the sort of children’s progams that are offered by many lodges in the Eastern Cape and Madikwe.

The Greater Kruger area is South Africa’s leading safari destination, and for those parents travelling with slightly older children and who are happy to visit an area where it is necessary to take anti-malaria precautions, these lodges all offer an excellent safari experience. The full listing is:

1 ) Notten’s Bush Camp
2 ) Chitwa Chitwa Game Lodge
3 ) Inyati Private Game Reserve
4 ) Exeter Dulini Private Game Lodge
5 ) Jock Safari Lodge
6 ) Bongani Mountain Camp
7 ) MalaMala Main Camp
8 ) Savanna Private Game Reserve
9 ) Jackalberry Lodge
10 ) Elephant Plains Game Lodge

This listing is ranked on the number of nights children under 12 have spent at each lodge based on recent bookings made by Travel Butlers.

South Africa Basks in Warm Sunshine Over The Holidays

Paul Campbell - December 27, 2007

After a period where the weather over much of South Africa was cool , wet and blustery,  and there was severe flooding in some areas such as the Garden Route, it appears that normal service has been resumed just in time for the Christmas and New Year peak.

Cape Town is due to enjoy clear skies and temperatures with highs of around 25°C for the next couple of days with this rising to a blistering 35°C on Saturday.

On the Garden Route the picture is milder (22°C – 26°C for the next three days), but again no rain is forecast, and in Kruger the outlook is 26c for today and Saturday, and 29°C for tomorrow (Friday).

You can find more weather forecasts on our South Africa Climate and Weather Forecasts page.

Rhino Walking Safaris In Kruger

Paul Campbell - December 11, 2007

Rhino Plains CampWe have recently updated the information for the Rhino Walking Safaris concession in the southern part of the Kruger Park (access via Paul Kruger Gate).

Rhino Post Safari Lodge offers fully inclusive rates including accommodation, meals, teas & coffees and game drives with optional safari walks also offered.

Rhino Plains Camp rates are fully inclusive of accommodation, meals, cold drinks, house wine and beers, teas & coffees and safari activities (primarily walking safaris).

The lodges are both in a very game rich part of the park, and most guests choose to split their stay between the two camps as this gives the best mixture of game drives from Rhino Post Camp (where you will get to see more of the reserve and have the chance to get closer to preditors which cannot be approched on foot) and walking safaris from Rhino Plains Camp (tracking Rhinos on foot is an unforgettable experience).
