Summary of the Route
For those with limited time who want to see the very best of what South Africa has to offer, a one week trip combining Cape Town with a safari in the Kruger area offers an unbeatable combination.
To make the most of your time, an ideal route is to fly to Cape Town to begin your holiday, where you will have 4 or 5 days to explore this fascinating city and the surrounding attractions. You would then catch an internal flight up to Kruger for your safari. After your safari, you can fly back to Johannesburg to connect with your international flight home.
A big influence on the cost of your trip will be the time of year you chose to travel: May to September is low season and whilst these are the cooler, wetter 'winter' months around Cape Town it is an excellent time to go on safari in Kruger. Cape Town (4 days)
Cape Town is one of the world's most beautiful cities - with a magnificent mountain as its centre, miles of sandy beaches, a colourful and moving history, and countless bars and restaurants, Cape Town captures the hearts of visitors from around the world.
A stay of 4 days allows time to see all the major attractions in the city (Table Mountain, Robben Island, township tour, Camps Bay, V&A Waterfront, Kirstenbosch Gardens, numerous museums and galleries) as well as allowing enough time to travel down to the Cape Peninsula or across to the Cape Winelands.
For much of the year there is one direct flight a day from Cape Town Airport (CPT) to the Nelspruit Kruger Mpumalanga Airport (MQP). If this flight is full or not available, there are other flights that connect through Johannesburg.
On Safari in a Private Game Reserve (3 days)
On arrival at the Nelspruit Kruger Mpumalanga Airport, we can arrange for the lodge to meet you and transfer you to the reserve for your safari.
The safari lodges in the private game reserves which make up the Greater Kruger Park area offer possibly the best Big 5 game viewing opportunities to be found on the continent, and provide a truly unforgettable wildlife experience.
Lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo are all regular sightings.
Aside from the excellent standard of accommodation, food, and service in the lodges, the main attraction for wildlife enthusiasts is that the guides and trackers who take guests out on their morning and evening game drives are permitted to take their vehicles off-road in order to get closer to the wildlife.
If you want to get within a couple of metres of lions or leopards in the wild, then these are the places to stay - and you can be certain that your safari will be utterly magical.
The prices starts from around R1,300 per person per night and go up to over R5,000 per person per night, depending on the lodge and the time of year. The rates are fully inclusive of all your meals and morning/afternoon game drives, and some lodges include all drinks as well in the price.
Getting Home
At the end of your safari the lodge will transfer you back to the airport, and you can catch a flight back to Johannesburg in time to to connect with your international flight home.
