Cape Town and Kruger Itinerary
Cape Town and the Greater Kruger Park - 1 Week Itinerary
Summary of the Route
For those with limited time who want to see the very best of what South Africa has to offer, a one week trip combining Cape Town with a safari in the Kruger area offers an unbeatable combination.
To make the most of your time, an ideal route is to fly to Cape Town to begin your holiday, where you will have 4 days to explore this fascinating city and the surrounding attractions - plus this also gives you time to catch up on any lost sleep after your international flight !
You would then
take an internal flight up to Kruger for your safari, and then after your safari, you can fly back to Johannesburg to connect with your international flight home.
Private safari lodges range in price - anything from R1,400 per person per night to over R5,000 per person per night. These rates are fully inclusive of all meals and guided game drives, and the more expensive lodges include extras such as drinks, laundry, etc.
Another factor to consider is the time of year you travel: whilst May to September are the cooler, wetter 'winter' months around Cape Town it is an excellent time to go on safari in Kruger - especially as most lodges offer a 'Low Winter Season' rate, and the prices can drop quite dramatically.

Please note: Kruger is a malarial area - for malaria-free safaris please click here.
For those with longer time on their hands, you can include a few additional nights exploring the area around the Park, plus a few nights self-driving in the Kruger National Park, which will make for an inforgettable holiday, not to mention a truly memorable safari experience ! Cape Town (4 days)
Cape Town is one of the world's most beautiful cities - with a magnificent mountain as its centre, miles of sandy beaches, a colourful and moving history, and countless bars and restaurants, Cape Town captures the hearts of visitors from around the world.
A stay of 4 days allows time to see all the major attractions in the city (Table Mountain, Robben Island, township tour, Camps Bay, V&A Waterfront, Kirstenbosch Gardens, numerous museums and galleries) as well as allowing enough time to travel down to the Cape Peninsula or over to the Cape Winelands.
Suggested Accommodation :
Top : Cape Grace, Table Bay Hotel, Mount Nelson
Mid : The Cullinan, V&A Hotel, Ezard House
Budget : Table Mountain Lodge, Diamond House, Oceana Luxury Suites & Spa
On Safari in a Private Game Reserve (3 days)
The safari lodges in the private game reserves which make up the Greater Kruger Park area offer possibly the best Big 5 game viewing opportunities to be found on the continent, and provide a truly unforgettable wildlife experience.
Lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo are all regular sightings.
Aside from the excellent standard of accommodation, food, and service in the lodges, the main attraction for wildlife enthusiasts is that the guides and trackers who take guests out on their morning and evening game drives are permitted to take their vehicles off-road in order to get closer to the wildlife.
If you want to get within a couple of metres of lions or leopards in the wild, then these are the places to stay - and you can be certain that your safari will be utterly magical.
Depending on the safari lodge you choose, you would need to fly into one of the 2 airports which service the safari lodges of the Greater Kruger Park - either the Kruger Mpumalanga / Nelspruit Airport or Hoedspruit Airport.
For much of the year there is one direct flight a day from Cape Town Airport (CPT) to the Kruger Mpumalanga / Nelspruit Airport (MQP), but to get to Hoedspruit Airport (HDS), you would need to first of all fly to Johannesburg and connect with an onwards flight onto Hoedspruit.
On arrival at either airport, we can arrange for you to be met from your flight and transferred by road to the game reserve.
Suggested Accommodation :
Top : Singita Ebony Lodge, Lion Sands Ivory Lodge, Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge, Ulusaba Safari Lodge
Mid : Notten's, Inyati, Tanda Tula, Motswari Game Lodge
Budget : Gomo Gomo, Elephant Plains, Arathusa, Nkorho
Getting Home
At the end of your safari we can arrange a transfer back to the airport, and you can then take a flight back to Johannesburg in time to to connect with your international flight home.
