The world-famous private game reserves of Sabi Sand, which adjoins the western boundary of the Kruger National Park, offer possibly the best Big 5 game viewing opportunities to be found on the continent, and provide an unforgettable experience.

Africa's Big 5 - lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo - are all regular sightings, and as there are no fences between the 70,000 hectare reserve and the neighbouring Kruger National Park (which is approximately the same size as Wales), the animals are free to roam unhindered wherever they please.

The 60,000 hectare Timbavati Game Reserve also shares a common unfenced border with the Kruger National Park. allowing the wildlife free range over 2 million hectares of African bush, and ensuring guests to the area have the opportunity to view the huge diversity of wildlife that Africa has to offer.

This lowveld area of wood and grassland is also home to Africa's Big 5 as well as many more species of predator and antelope.

The malaria-free Madikwe Private Game Reserve is situated just 5 hours from Johannesburg, or only 3 hours from Sun City.

Covering some 76,000 hectares, it is one of the largest game reserves in South Africa.

Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of endangered wild dog, as well as gemsbok, springbok, zebra and giraffe, and over 340 species of birds.

In all the reserves, because the land is privately owned, the game viewing vehicles are not restricted to the road network and it is therefore possible for the experienced guides to follow the wildlife through the bush and get extremely close to the animals.
