Lalibela Game Reserve, Eastern Cape
Traditional accommodation in a relaxed atmosphere
Lalibela offers traditional game lodge accommodation with authentic African decor and a relaxed and informal atmosphere in the heart of the Eastern Cape.
This malaria-free reserve covers 7,500 hectares, and unlike some of the neighbouring game reserves, there are no public roads running through Lalibela's land.
The reserve spans 5 ecosystems (valley bushveld, grassland, fynbos and riverine forest), which is home to a great diversity of wildlife.
Guests staying here can enjoy a Big 5 game viewing experience, and other large mammals found on the reserve include hippo, giraffe, zebra, warthog and numerous species of antelope such as eland, kudu, bushbuck and wildebeest.
All of the animals, including the predators, are free-roaming throughout the entire reserve.
The 3 lodges on the Lalibela Game Reserve include Mark's Camp, which offers family-friendly accommodation, Tree Tops - a unique tented safari experience, and Lentaba Lodge, which is traditionally African in its decor.
Each lodge has its own unique character, and all boast large guest lounges and viewing decks, as well as sunny swimming pools where you can relax inbetween game activities.
The lodges also all have an outdoor dining boma, for fireside dinners and open-air brunches, as well as stylish indoor dining areas for when the weather is colder. Food is true safari cuisine with an emphasis on local specialties, ranging from centuries-old recipes to exciting contemporary African dishes.
The lodge offers 8 secluded thatched chalets, each with air conditioning and a private observation deck to make the most of the views over the valley bushveld. There is an outdoor dining 'boma' for fireside dinners and open-air brunches in the summer months, as well as a gracious indoor dining area.

The 7 stone and thatch chalets and main lodge at Mark's Camp are decorated in a relaxed Pan-African style. Each comfortably furnished chalet has an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning.
The luxury safari tents at Tree Tops are perched high on thatched platforms at 'tree top' level, and joined by raised walkways. They offer spectacular views over the thickly-wooded valley.
