If you are interested in the wildlife of the region you may find that it is worth investing in a field guide to help you identify and understand the behaviour if the animals you see.
This is by no means a pre-requisite to enjoying your safari, particularly if you are staying at a safari lodge as they will have knowledgeable staff and usually a small library of relevant books, however those on a self-drive safari or with a particular interest birds or other animals may well find a field guide to be a worthwhile purchase.
