Whilst English is spoken pretty much everywhere as either a first or second (or third or fourth) language and it is difficult to imagine a circumstance where you would need to speak any Afrikaans, Zulu or any other of South Africa's 11 official languages, learning a few words will certainly endear you to the locals.
