The suites on South Africa’s ‘Blue Jewel’, as it is fondly known, truly do surpass in terms of splendour.  The individually controlled air-conditioned Luxury and Deluxe suites all offer the choice of twin or double bed sleeping arrangements, made up every night by your onboard butler with the finest bed linen. Private en-suite marble tiled bathrooms offer showers or deep baths for luxuriant soaking.  

In addition, the Luxury suites include a private digital entertainment centre and an inviting selection of music CDs and big-screen movies on DVD.

During the day, unwind and relax with a drink from the well stocked bar as the countryside flashes past the windows, and enjoy a game of cards, chess or backgammon, or tune into the big-screen television, or even browse through the selection of reading material from the library.  

The daily dress code is smart-casual, but as the sun starts to set, guests change into traditional evening attire, befitting of the Blue Train’s classic livery and earthy African decor. 

The elegant lounge carriages are the perfect setting for a pre-dinner aperitif, or a relaxing after dinner conversation over a liqueur and a coffee. 

The club car, with its mellow lamplights,  offers a delightful setting for those wishing to enjoy a quiet smoke.

The silver-service evening dining experience on the Blue Train begins as soon as you enter the dining car for one of the 2 dinner sittings. The Sheffield cutlery and crystal glassware on the crisp white linen cloths set the tone for the culinary delights to follow. 

Each meal is accompanied by a selection of tasteful background music, ranging from smooth jazz to light classical to the mellow tones of the Soweto String Quartet.

The menus feature a selection of local cuisine from Karoo lamb and ostrich fillet to Knysna oysters accompanied by award-winning wine from the famous Cape Winelands.   All dietary requirements can be catered for, and should guests prefer, meals can also be savoured in the privacy and comfort of your own suite.

In the mornings, a Continental or full English breakfast is served at your leisure.
