The small town of Wilderness, only 50 km from Knysna, is a wonderful place to base yourself to explore the Garden Route from.
Vast expanses of pristine golden beach run along the coastline, where you can frequently spot dolphins, and whales during the whale watching season.
Relax in the warm sun, and revel the fact that the beach is never too crowded - even in the height of summer - but please note that the ocean currents here are strong, so care should be taken if you decide to go in for a dip.
Or enjoy a long, romantic walk along the beach and watch the sun setting at the end of the day.
The small picturesque village itself has a well-earned reputation for hospitality, not to mention several excellent restaurants where you can sit and enjoy a leisurely lunch, or a relaxing candle lit dinner with a bottle of wine.
